When did Galento have Louis "seriously hurt"? :huh

In the first, when he hooked him into the corner? Joe ate a big shot, but he didn't seem to lack any clarity and his legs were fine within less than a second.

In the third, when he surprised him with the short inside counter hook that dropped Louis for all of one second flat? Again, "seriously hurt" seems to be a bit of a reach...especially considering how things played out thereafter.

It's the best division in terms of quality for the HWs.
If we had a time machine and put Louis in the 90s, he wouldn't even be a contender.
But had he been born in 64, like you say, he might have been a good CW.

    Hell no.
Liston, Foreman, Bowe and the K brothers obliterate him.
    Patterson can outpoint him.
    Dempsey can out-brawl him, though it's 50:50.

I can see him beating everyone or atleast having some quality names on his resume.
90s Tyson, 90s Holmes, 90s Foreman, Ray Mercer, Oliver McCall, Hassim Rahman, Buster Douglas, Michael Moorer, Evander Holyfield and all the guys below world class level.
The two problematic ones for him are IMO Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe, but who's to say he doesn't fight Lewis pre Steward or Bowe post Holyfield II. Basically he could beat all those guys depending on when he meets them and knowing his prime was one of the longest anyway.

I think the Brown Bomber cleans up the lot of the ‘90s guys.

I mean Corbett, Fitzsimmons and Jeffries have something to recommend them but Joe was too fast, hit too hard and his technique was far superior.

Unless you mean the 1990s. I’d have to think about that.

Joe Louis's jab would be a problem for Evander as it was throughout his career. Louis power punches flow off of that jab. Joe's chin was at least the equal of Holyfield's. I do agree Tyson could beat Louis (probably) as long as he is peak Tyson.

I've always felt that Blackburn was the best trainer in boxing history. Ray Arcel was close to Blackburn and he had high praise for his friend.

Good post. I appreciate the time it takes to put that together. With that said who did Tyson ever knock out late? Did he display the kind of stamina and carry his power past the mid rounds?

Louis and more or less unrestricted access to steroids? Oh boy.
