I read ok thanks , and you didnt adress my question ,if Louis was so poor technically how come he was unbeaten as champ for 12 years and made a record in defences?.Louis probably kod more big guys than any champ.Wlad is a big fish in a small pond his competition is poor Peter is called a champ yet he fights like a novice ,yet he gave Wlad all he wanted,Klitshcko is fragile ,mentally and his chin isnt too sturdy, the best of a bad bunch.
Louis was one of the greatest punchers of all time not just power, but hand speed, accuracy, excellent delivery and maybe the best finisher in heavyweight history he would be the number guy if he were fighting today.
Truthfully, I couldn't say for sure if Wlad would beat Louis, but I stick to my initial point of the thread, which is that I feel he would be a great fighter in this era with a chance of beating Wlad and certainly a number of top heavyweights. Yes, he would have some disadvantages, but not to the point of being handicapped. In addition, I truly believe that he is a tactically better fighter from a skills standpoint than any who are around right now. If Louis were to travel in a time machine to 2008, I wouldn't just throw him in the ring with Wlad or Peter right away. He should be allowed the courtesy of training under modern standards for at least 6 months and perhaps even fight a tunup against a decent middle of the road contender before challenging for the title. I do not consider this as trying to "Morphe" Louis into something that he isn't. Fighters within a given era who wish to jump weight, often have to reinvent themselves to a greater extent than Louis would to be competitive today.
Widdow- Nothing against you man, but how do you expect someone to buy into your posts regarding Wlad, when every ATG Heavyweight vs Wlad poll, you always take Wlad to win? Is there any ATG Heavyweight you think that could beat Wlad? I just have hard time buying into your ideas sometimes because you constantly twist the truth, until someone calls you on it. Wlad is a good fighter, but not a great, I feel you should take that into account when comparing Wlad to ATG guys like Louis.
Please.... PLEASE.... go find all of these "ATG vs Wlad" polls that you are claiming that I voted for Wlad in. I would love to see this. Also, Wlad is just in his prime right now. We can't say whether he will be considered an ATG when it's all over or not. Either way, it has nothing to do with ATG status here, we are discussing a head to head fight. I would take a boatload of non-ATG fighters to beat ATG fighters. Hell, most ATG fighters were beat in their own prime and eras by guys who aren't ATG's. Let alone a completely different era 70 years down the road.
You picked Wlad over Louis, Lewis, and not a 100% sure, but it was either you or RUSKULL that picked Wlad over a prime Ali a couple months back. So what ATG heavyweight can beat Wlad? Because I never once heard you say Wlad losses to so and so, and gave a reason for it.
It was a left hook that Galento dropped Louis with, and it was primarily lefts, not rights that troubled him. Not to mention, Wlad is not in the same league as Tyson nor Lewis, who either may or may not have beaten Joe Louis anyway. Andrew Galata???? Sheeez.
I ask you to watch Louis vs Schmeling I if you think that Louis wasn't also troubled by rights. Besides that, Wlad's left hook is just as dangerous as his right hand.
When a man fights in 70 professional bouts, and faces at least 34 men who are either rated contenders or hall of famers, he is bound to get tagged with just about every punch in the book at some point or another. So yes, he took some good rights during his day, but as I said before, this was not his achilles heel. Not to mention, Schmeling was a former world champion still in his prime fighting Louis who had been a pro all but a mere two years. No offense, but as usual you're reaching for the least pertinant examples.
As I already said in an earlier post, he would be at a disadvantage today, but not to the point of being handicapped. Go back and review the footage that you saw, and study his offense along with some of the other things that he did. Can you honestly tell me that there are any fighters today, or even in most other eras who look that good? Every punch he threw was almost perfect in form from a technical standpoint. Some fighters are known for either hooks, jabs, uppercuts, crosses, body shots, etc. He was one of the few, if not the only heavyweight who had mastered virtually all of them.
