Exactly, Because it was my perception of what I thought he meant. In addition, you do not know my history with this poster, and I really don't care to go into it at this time, as it detracts from the focus of the thread ( not to mention, none of your affair. ) By the way, who's to call who a trouble maker? For whatever reason, you chose to respond to my statement to another poster, but not the one that I addressed to you. It would certainly appear as though you have a rather cavalier like agenda on this thread, rather than to discuss Joe Louis.
Lewis fought 3 and a half years in the 2000's, the bulk of his career was fought in the 90's, Tua is a toss up, he actually fought better in the 90's, Briggs the same thing. Jones fought one fight at Heavyweight, nice try, Toney I will give you. The names are not as good, you have one true Heavyweight soon to be Hall of famer, that's it.
This was not my agenda, but even if it was, I am not the first one of the two of us who was guilty of it, and I think you know this to be a fact sir.
Look dude, let's just call it a draw and put this stuff behind us. I'm tired of arguing about absolutely nothing. I don't have time for it, and I'm sure you don't either. ...Peace...
I can tell you right now that you're flat out wrong on that one. They'll know who Klitschko is in Germany for sure but the rest of Europe no chance.
Some of the football guys I drink with -sports guys - they didn't know there was two Klitchkos. They thought there was only one. They thought the current #1 had been beaten by Lewis.
That much is certainly understandable I suppose if you don't really follow the sport. Certainly for the 'casual' fan of boxing the heavyweight champion isn't well known right now. Back in the 80's Tyson was a household name over here, as was Lewis when he was champ and obviously Bruno was for patriotic reasons. Same goes for Holmes and Ali, people knew who the champ was back then. Ask the average man in the UK who the heavyweight champion is right now and they won't have a clue. I don't believe it's due to a decline in popularity for boxing in general - the attendances at Hatton/Calzaghe fights over here prove that not to be the case. My own belief is that it's a combination of the heavyweight division being crap and the fact that there is currently no UK interest in it. Haye's emergence may change that fact...
Also, a lot of people in the UK know Mayweather, especially after Hatton and now this Big Show thing. Klitchko is certainly something of a non-event as far as the UK goes, not that he gives a ****. Anybody who fights the way he did against Ibragimov isn't particularly interested in public opinion.
I just don't think Boxing gets much coverage anymore, not just because of the quality, but because there are just too many damn options of things for people to either watch on TV or listen to. Seriously, how many cable channels can I watch in one night for Christ's sake.
Yeah that fight was shown free over here and it certainly won't have helped his case for the casual fan that stayed up late to watch it. I know several people who did this, and just dismissed the guy the day after. Of course I busted a gut to try to change their minds but no-one was listening, unfortunately VITLAY is probably better known due to him fighting Lewis and KO'ing Herbie Hide who was universally despised over here anyway. Hide was ahead on the cards at the time though which means he won the fight.
