Well, I have to agree with your country men in terms of Frank Bruno. He was a warrior and a guy who gave a galant effort every time out. He also seemed like a pretty good man. Hide should not have insulted Frank Bruno who is obviously a national hero and for good reason.
Bruno always seemed like a good man when he was fighting but since his career finished a different story has been told. Wife-beater apparently, and now a coke-head who's also spent time in a mental institution. Apparently he had the ring that he beat McCall in rebuilt in his back garden and for long periods he was actually sleeping in it :nut I won't knock him on the wife beating though, I think if I'd been married to his wife I'd have beaten the **** out of her too, horrible piece of work by all accounts. Lennox Lewis and Frank Maloney both have very sour memories of her from when Lennox beat Bruno. As a fighter though, I still maintain that comparisons between WALD and Bruno are valid - I'd put them both at around the same level.
Agreed, but just watching the Mercer fight tonite, I find it hard to call Lewis even timid, he was calculating, but he was also every bit a warrior as a Bowe or even a Holyfield at that time, the matches I described in my other post proves this. As far as Wlad having Heart, he obviously has heart, but very little at the top level, and even less toughness, other than Peter, anytime Wlad has to deal with adversity of any kind, he almost always falters, this is not what a great champion does when he's in trouble, they fight through it and find away to pull out a victory, or at least go out swinging, Wlad rather panic and clinch his way out of trouble, I dont care what a Wlad nuthugger has to say, Wlad will never be considered a great until he overcomes his fear of being hurt and beats a great fighter himself.
I know, you could say the same things to your blue in the face, but most Wlad nuthuggers will ever listen, they believe what they want to believe. Widdow surprised me today, instead of answering the improtant questions I asked him, he chose to duck them and answer other posters questions instead. I know he thinks Wlad beats every ATG Heavyweight, and when I called him on it, he refused to answer, instead he asked me who I thought Wlad could beat.
Agreed. It's also nonsense that the Klit fanboys come up with about Lewis only being considered the real champion after 2000 too. Certainly that wasn't the case over here, everyone in England knew he'd beat Holyfield and Tyson if they ever met and only crooked judges proved us wrong in that first Holyfield fight. Lewis always was a tremendous fighter but from the McCall fight onwards he was unstoppable. Obviously the Rahman KO was bad but even then he wasn't *********, just poorly prepared and by all accounts Rahman was ready to quit in that fight. Regardless of all that he left no question unanswered in the rematch and beat every man he ever faced in the ring. Lewis was a great champion. I still remember saying to my dad back in the late 80's after Lewis demolished Gary Mason that "this guy will beat Mike Tyson if they fight, mark my words" and my dad laughed at me. Oh how little he knew :deal Gary Mason....now there's a British fighter who's largely forgotten about, very good fighter, unfortunate that he's not around today, he'd probably be a lot wealthier a man if he were.
He still hasn't answered my questions from last night either. Don't feel bad about it he uses avoidance tactics when he knows he's about to talk himself into a hole. He'll come back and nip at your heels on a far less relevent point later in the debate no doubt. Just remember this is a guy who is a 'fan of the sport' as he put it himself, and he isn't a 'nuthugger' as he said himself. This is the same guy who complained when Oscar lost in the 2nd fight to Mosley because the judges gave the fight to Mosley because he 'landed the more effective punches' Then he went on a vicious tirade against anyone who claimed that Felix Sturm was robbed against Oscar, because it was clear that although Oscar was out-landed he landed the 'more effective punches' :rofl :rofl He also claims that Oscar was ahead on the cards when B-Hop stopped him, and that Oscar beat Mayweather. This is just the guys stance on one of his favourite fighters by the way, WALD is his other favourite. His track record on neutrality isn't great, to say the least. Yet he comes on here and says that I'M 'not the brightest', yeah right. Window is best ignored when it comes to boxing discussion.
I never got into it about Oscar with him, but I'm sure he's as bad as you say. I just wish for once he would admit Wlad has flaws, instead of trying cover them up by using lame half truths, and excuses, like I was telling suge a couple days back, if only Wlad could get knocked out by Peter or someone else for that matter, maybe all the nuthugging would end or at least lesson.
Good lord look at you. I am away from this place for a while, and you guys are gossiping back and forth about me like teenage girls. You guys are WAY too concerned about my opinions.
Louis would be champion. There are only a couple of fighters I'd put ahead of him H2H. Wald would get KO'd, and probably early if he fought Joe Louis.
Agreed, Wlad would falter against Joe on the inside, all Louis needs is 6 inches of seperation and Wlad will end up going into a panic attack and eventually be knocked out on the canvas looking up into the lights.
The inverse is true as well. Take W. Klischko off the weights and whatever supplements hes taking and hes basically a beanpole. Ive always thought he's more Ernie Terrell than Lennox Lewis physically. Listening to the Klistchonians youde think he's a 12 feet tall, 1000lbs mythical warrior
I'm not sure to what degree WLad's body is natural or to what extent it needed to be developed through modern methods. He does look very impressive though, and has a body that most men would like to have themselves ( I know I would ). THe problem is, I'm not sure if he's necessarily better fighter because of it. We all know that boxing is about a lot more than just looking good.
I would love to know what you are basing this theory on. Have you ever seen Lennox Lewis when he was younger? He was scrawny as hell. This content is protected People fill out when they get older. How was Primo Carnera so big back then? He wasn't a great boxer, but he was big as hell. Some people are just big. You have no ground to stand on pretending like Wlad would be a "beanpole" if he was off the "supplements" that you assume he is taking. Also, you do know that people lifted weights back then, don't you?
