I COMPLETELY agree with you. Wlad has EVERY ADVANTAGE over Louis. Better speed Better Power Yes, Even a Better Chin! Louis has been knocked down by bums like Braddock. Klichko has only been knocked down by Punchers who would knock out Louis.
Your numbers on Louis being dropped are wrong. I doubt there is even an accurate count. I never said anything about being knocked out more times than Wlad. I said he was knocked out before, by much smaller men. Also, Louis is ranked where he is do to his accomplishments during his era. Which is the only fair way to rank him. ATG lists aren't ranked based on mythical head to head match-ups. Louis wouldn't get inside of Wlad. He has nothing that would get him there. Wlad's feet are unmeasurably faster than Louis'... let alone his reach, speed, and power keeping Joe on the outside... where he wouldn't last very long do to his non-exsistent head movement and vulnerable chin.
Wow... nothing but a bunch of baseless opinions. Facts work better with me. I don't plan on sitting here arguing your bias remarks about everything that I say. Also, try to read a little bit better, some of the things that you responded to have nothing to do with what I said.
Agreed, and we also have to consider that Joe Louis was already pretty much a natural 195-205 pounder, wheras Holyfield actually began around 177. Not to mention, being the same height. Therefore, I think its very feasible that Louis could respond to muscle gain in similar fashion, or at least get some benefit from it. We have to remember that there wasn't as much emphasis on strength training in those days, and still look at how he destroyed some men who were much bigger.
Some facts about Joe Louis to be taken into acount. He defended the title 26 times in total in the days when there was only one title. He had 71 profesional fights in his career and an incrdible 34 of those were against heavyweights curently ranked in the top 10!! That is half of his profesional career. That is a lot of chances for qualified fighters to drop you on your ass. He defeated eight lineal champions, all by knockout. He lost to Max Schmeling inside his first two years as a pro and did not loose again for 15 years!! His only losses at any stage in his career whether green or shot were to top 20 all time heavyweights. For his period his statistics are prety much as good as you can get.
In todays terms yes. That dosnt tell the whole story. Boxing training changed radicaly in the 90s. Road work was replaced with weight lifting. There was honestly more diference in training methods between Larry Holmes and Evander Holyfield than there was between Larry Holmes and Jack Dempsey. Many of Louis's opponents would be 200 lbs+ in todays market.
If facts work so well for you why do you keep making assumptions? Every opinion I stated is backed by facts.
Mr. Magoo- I just dont understand why Widdow continues to his quest to convince people that Wlad is the best H2H fighter of all time, I tried to explain to him that Louis didnt have all the technology and understanding of nutrition as we do now 60+ years later, and that Holyfield would of never been a Heavyweight in those days, because it took weight lifting, HGH, and the assistance of world class body builder in Lee Haney to get him that big, I feel Louis would be fighting at in shape 225 today. Widdow- I told you in my post that I dont know how many times Louis has been down, but I do know how many times Wlad has been floored, all of which by less than top quality oppenents, and has been knocked out 3 times by guys that would probably make Joe's bum of the month club, certainly Purrity would. Louis on the other hand was knocked out by Scmelling and Marciano, world class Heavyweights, and the Marciano knockout came when Joe was in his late 30's and well past his prime.
Wlad had 16 fights in his 1st 2 years the only "name" was the formidable Wimpy Halstead.Louis had 26 including kos over 2 former world champions.
Its strange that Louis ,according to you, hardly moved his feet ,hardly moved his head ,held his hands too low ,yet in 79 fights over 17 years including meeting 8 world Champions ,he was only stopped twice once before he was champ ,and underestimated his opponent, and once when he was 36 and ,past it,both men were very hard punchers and both were world champions. It seems to me a man with all the faults you picked out ,would have been easy meat for other boxers, instead of dominating heavyweight boxing for 12 years.
Anyway, for me, I'm not particularly interested in "modern nutrition" or "technical advancements" (What the ****?) Louis, exactly as he appears on film would be favourite against any heavweight currently fighting currently and every heavyweight since Lewis was in his pomp. That one would be interesting.
