i think Louis wasnt overrated because he proved he was a champion with his 25 title defenses. but matching him with now a day heavyweights would be a waste of time because styles have changed fighters are bigger, training methods are better everything advanced since Louis' time in the ring it would be a closer fight if fighters from the 70's were matched with modern day opponents

Joe Louis was almost perfect in his time. Great technique and power, people are still looking at his films to perfect their technique nowadays, so you can't say he's overrated. If you love today's boxing, you've got to pay respect to those who paved the way... I'd also had that I've yet to see a modern heavyweight throw combinations regularly as he did.

 

Don't forget Louis was down as many times as Wladimir Klitschko. :good

Louis beats every fighter today, he is on another level. Theres no shame in either Klit losing to Louis.

People in this thread are talking about him being stopped by Max or being dropped often; look at the circumstances, see Louis at his best, and then come back here and debate with the adults.
