Joe Louis is the best

I'd say a good case can be made that Louis was nearer his prime when he lost to Schmeling than Ali was for any of his losses. And good as Schmeling was, he sure was no FOTC Frazier.

 

Otherwise; agree that Louis is absolutely beautiful to watch. So fantastically composed. And a good case can be made for having him nr. 1 at HW and nr. 10 p4p. Him and Ali are locks as the best HWs ever.

Perhaps he was getting fed up with having his teeth rattled by that jolting jab?
The trouble with Louis was, he had deadly punches in both hands,probably the most correct puncher of the Heavies.
I noticed , versus Ettore, he appeared to want more room to throw his right cross ,even pushing him back, ala Foreman, to gain the right distance, his hook was short and deadly,and of course the cross travels a further distance .The bench mark for a ko finisher.

 

And there are those who say Goddoy/Farr got the better of a prime Louis

 

Yeah, he wasn't invincible. No one is. A great fighter, though.

 

It most certainly is debatable depending on your criteria.
