I decided to upload this very rare film. I apologize, it's extremely short only 15 seconds long. But you get to see a glimpse of Louis' taking him apart. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j7ELKfkgWs[/ame]
too bad it wasnt the first all black HW championship as the announcer claims. that distinction goes to jack johnson vs jim johnson in 1913, or Langford vs Jeannette (for the EBU version, they stripped johnson for failing to defend against worthy opposition) the same month.
Thanks Suzie,I think Louis felt he was doing John Henry a favour, giving him some pension plan ,and not prolonging the agony.
This is not far from being as good a win as Tysons win over Spinks. Nat Fleischer rated it as Louis's best showing, ahead of Louis Schmelling II.
Here's some additional footage of Louis walking down Lewis: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJFLSSFrS8E[/ame] 6:30
What a mugging! That poker-faced Louis was nothing short of a killer when determined. He went for nothing but vital spots: the chin, the heart, the liver. Egad! And, yes, Louis took the fight as a favor to the one-eyed, broke Lewis. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Ouch!
Interesting how Tyson thinks he would've been capable of beating Holmes when he was 16!! To be honest I do think Holmes is (certainly of the great champs) easily the most over-rated of all time - and I'm kind of in agreement with Mike here - I mean obviously its unreal to imagine that he could've done that but I just don't rate Larry as that amazing a fighter - very good but - i just think truly great fighters do beat Larry.
