I think Cox'sCorner couldn't split Ali and Louis, either. So much for being a "nuthugger". Nobody dare say Ali was beatable; great but beatable!

Ali was simply too good for Louis.

I think Louis was thinking along the right lines, in terms of developing a suitable strategy.

    Would it work?

    I would say definitely maybe.

The man who Ali should be most afraid of here is Blackburn.

Nice read. I am a huge Joe Louis fan. Louis could KO any heavyweight the same way they discribe it here against Ali. Everything he said about Ali was true. Ali had plenty of flaws similar to Roy Jones Jr.

As perfect a puncher as Joe was he had his flaws too. I think he was so commited to punching with power, timing, and position that he left himself as open as Ali did. I also think that the speed of Ali would be susprizingly hard for him to deal with and may find himself in trouble more than once. Ali could and would rise to the occasion of the spirit of a fight with Joe and adapt.

I hate to say it but I think the best Ali beats the best Joe Louis. But, that Ali has to be perfect all night. Maybe Ali from the second Liston fight. He was ready to go all night in that one no matter what Liston did. Because anything less gets KO'ed. Ali has too many technical flaws against a supreme tactician like Louis to come in and be anything less than perfect.

If footwork controlled boxing matches as much as your suggesting then the flat footed Joe Louis would have been no more than a big hitting contender throughout his career. There's far much more to this fight than footwork and it's just one of them fights that would have had to take place to get the correct outcome.

H, right on ! You and I who favor the great Joe Louis over Ali are called "NUTHUGGERS" by a poster who diminishes opinions by calling names to other posters as you and myself, who disagree with him. Well I know and saw a helluva lot more than said poster, and if i am called "nuthugger" for extolling the virtues of Joe Louis, SO BE IT ! CHEERS H.:good

I am proud to be called a "NUTHUGGER" because I favor Joe Louis over Ali...Damn proud !. What does that make you who worships almighty Ali ?
P.S. It is one thing to disagree with someone whose opinion differs from yours, but to call a Houdini or myself a "nuthugger",is a punch below the belt...
P.S. It is possible that we might know as much as you about boxing history.

This fight is a 50/50. Each at their absolute best will always make it debatable.
