Skill-wise Louis was superior? I'd say the opposite is clearly true. Louis was a more powerful puncher. He holds no other edges in the skills department. In terms of top wins he's also lacking by comparison.

He makes it close by virtue of longevity and a nearly unparalleled reign. I still might have Leonard slightly higher, all things considered, although now everybody's gonna pick Louis based on how highly McGrain put him on his top 100.

I agree.. I think skill wise... SRL is superior.. as a whole package.. including many other factors... Louis is slightly slightly superior overall

Close. The case for Louis is a fine one. Dominance counts for a lot and never has there been a dominant champion to match Louis. He hung around for a long time, too.

But I'll have the edge to Leonard. A better fighter, I think, who beat better fighters.

    ^^^ this

and overall Louis was greater, just a better boxer/fighter in a much tougher time, but both are great.

Louis why physically the bigger man in 70% of his fights though.

    It's dominance vs quality

Not of the quality of SRL... The greats Louis did meet.. he mostly lost 2 or split with i.e. Max, Ezzard, Marciano and yes I will include Jersey joe

That's true but Leonard also lost to Duran and split with Hearns and was dominated by Terry Norris. You can do that with anyone`s resume.

I don't think there were very many times more difficult than the late 70's/80's Welterweight division, and Leonard beat all of the biggest names. Certainly a more formidable crop of top fighters than Louis beat.

Nice post orriray. Ray's career was comparatively short but my word did he take on some incredible challenges.

Kalule would knock Louis out, if we're being honest. Ho Joo styleeeeeeeeee mayne :deal

    Louis never made mistakes.

Though Galento does make a fun fantasy match up:
