What if the FOTC was between prime Louis and the Ali of 1971? Personally, I say Louis would stop Ali because if he stood toe to toe with Louis, I think his chin would eventually fail him under Louis sharp and pinpoint combinations but with power more in line with Foreman's than Fraizers.

Louis has an excellent shout here because Ali's legs and stamina were not at their best. If he retreats to the ropes, as he did against Frazier, Louis likely tags him.

It's never this basic, but with most other things being equal, a great boxer should always beat a great puncher.

The fact that this particular boxer happens to have spectacular punch resistance, and respectable power to keep the puncher honest, I just don't see that type of fighter ever beating Ali.

I don't see Louis taking the punishemnet Frazier did and having enough left to have proper success of his own, Ali stops him IMO.

Why not? The only two who stopped Louis was Schmeling and Marciano and Marciano was fighting a Louis that had seen better days. Schmeling had to hit Louis with everything plus the kitchen sink for 12 rounds. We know Marciano hit harder than Ali and you could make a good argument that Schmeling did as well, though not to the same degree as Marciano.

None of these would be landing as fast and as often as Ali, he'd hit him that many times he'd think he was surrounded.

Just because Louis replaces frazier in the FOTC doesnt mean he would be taking all the punches frazier would be taking or that it would be the same fight.
Louis can do everything Norton can do and then some.
It would be imo a more similar fight to ali norton than ali frazier.
Louis by late round stoppage or decision

That's what Buddy Baer said about Louis after there first fight. He said he thought he was surrounded with the speed Louis was hitting him with.

On that day Buddy Baer stopped Ali by TKO round 10 of 15.

If you're talking prime Louis I think he takes seventies Ali, even early seventies Ali. This would look a little like Ali-Norton I, only amplified. Louis by clear UD.
