Ali would be in control on the outside against Louis. He was taller, quicker of hand and foot. Ali had more agility. Joe Louis was certainly greater than Frazier but he didn't cut the ring or apply the same kind of pressure that Smokin Joe did that night. Frazier didn't allow Ali to breathe for a second. Ali would have no need to go to the ropes for any extended period. It is questionable whether Joe Louis could take the right crosses that Ali dished out on March 8th `71. I wouldn't count on it.

Even that version of Ali beats Louis. Louis was never the pressure fighter Frazier was. Nor did he have the chin that a very prime Frazier had on that night. Louis gets stopped any time between 6/10 eds. Even prime J.Louis.

I would agree that is the most likely result.

I disagree about the chin. Schmeling was pretty accurate and precise with his right hand and Schmeling arguably hit harder than Ali and it took Schmeling 12 rounds to stop Louis.

Not sure if he hit harder, but even if he didn't, Ali would be landing way more punches that would take their toll. He'd be landing jabs till the sun comes up.
