Bojak, what do you think would have happened if Max Schmeling walked up to a peak George Foreman at ring center and started trying to hit him with right leads?

Joe Louis had a hammer for a jab. One thing Ali hated more than anything was a boxer who jabbed along with him.

That's how Ken Norton, who drug his back foot behind him, and telegraphed his overhand right, and seemingly shouldn't have ever given him trouble managed to compete on even terms with Ali three times. Norton matched Ali jab for jab.

Joe Louis vs. Ali would've been epic.

:) Not one to speculate too much, but it would have been a hell of a watch.

That Emanuel Steward fella said Louis' management avoided boxers. Guess that's why he fought Ramage twice, Pastor twice, Conn twice, Walcott twice and Tommy Farr two months after taking the belt from James Braddock.
Only one guy has an equal track record against this type of fighter in Heavyweight class and that's Joe Frazier.

Norton's jab came from underneath in a bit of a peculiar way, though. Louis was a jabber more in the mould of Liston and Foreman (or they in his mould to be more exact).

I also don't think Norton had as much sucess with his jab against the best version of Ali he faced. Yes, he landed some good ones particularly in round 5 and 6, when Ali was slowing down, but overall I thought Ali won the battle of the jabs in that fight.

He pretty much nullified the jabs of Liston and Foreman.

I reckon a fella who trained forty-one champions including Wlad, Lennox, and the Hit Man knew a thing or two about boxing.

He sure did. Doesn't mean he knew more than Eddie Futch who trained with Louis himself, trained the guys who beat Ali and thought Louis could would beat Ali.

This is sort of a 50/50 fight for me and I always go back and forth on who I think would win. I really think that both men are capable of beating the other.

And Ali didn't because he was muslim.
So I go with Ali all the way.

I have no direct insight into this to say either way, but are we sure Ali gave up bacon? He grew up eating it, & showed in other ways he could be pretty flexible, as far as Islam goes.

Just working with Bundini Brown alone would be enough for most Muslims to turn their back on him were he a nobody.

Futch also thought Schuler would beat Hearns, Bobick would beat Norton, Hearns would beat Hagler and any amount of other incorrect things. He also got some right. He's going to have plenty of nostalgia going on as well given he shared a ring and a solid friendship with Louis.

Picks are a dime a dozen even among the most brilliant of observers. The top dogs have about as much success as the armchair critic on the whole.

You missed the whole point of my post.

Also what's more ludicrous is pretending people are going around saying Ali is going to tag him every time he throws a jab.

Boxing didn't end in the 50's you know ;)

Ali's right hand was not as hard or precise or well set-up as Schmeling's. Schmeling's right was his main weapon.

Muhammad Ali never landed a lead right hand on anybody that was defensively sound. His right hand mostly worked as a follow-up after his jab.

    This is what you said:

Ali would be pumping Louis with right hand leads and crosses like Schemling all night long.
