The fact that he can bring his A game? What exactly makes this fight competitive, other than the fact that Douglas somehow beat Tyson?
Douglas' lateral movement would confuse Louis. God knows Louis wasn't that hard to confuse. :rofl Douglas' combinations would land flush as Louis plods forward. I wouldn't bet a dime on Louis' defense. Douglas by brutal KO well inside the distance. :bbb
He fought a fair amount of his career around 160lb and i will have you know, that you should always make exaggerations to substantiate your argument Burt. Most of those fighters are lightheavies for the love of god. Any modern day heavy would get crucified for the Conn fight.
Only in the wacko world of Eastside boxing do people debate that Joe Louis is overrated. Human statues that don't possess 5% of Louis skills are hailed as all time greats while those with true skill who really know how to fight are "overrated". Never thought any boxing forum could sink this low.
i am not sure about saying conn nearly beat louis, there were 2 + rounds left where anything could have happened. not to take away from conn, he was boxing the fight of his life but it aint like the chavez taylor ending. imo, ali usually beats him, lewis wins more than he gets ko'd, tyson and holmes about 50/50 and he is favorite vs everyone else.
Even the magical, power level 9000 douglas had plenty of flaws. He didnt the left back quivk enough after the jab, he took rounds off, his defense got sloppy and led to a knockdown. if hes bang on, hes got a shot...but if he lets that left drop too often, louis will finish him
You gotta be kidding me with this ****. Look at where Louis' hands are, look at where his chin is. Furthermore, look at Douglas' reach, hand speed, and combinations. Louis gets his focking head knocked off.
Tokyo Douglas stops Joe 90% of the time and Tokyo Douglas would have got stopped by a Tyson who hadn't Overdosed on japanese ***** and coke without much difficulty. So that's how little i think of Joe against Mike.
Assuming the weight helps his durability to the extent you might expect. How much does it affect stamina and speed? I agree with your first sentence. Not top 5 H2H at HW. If you think Top 2 H2H you're honestly in looney tune, rose-colored tinted land.
So your top 2 H2H HW loses to the only three truly great SHW and still maintains being a confident pick at 1-2 H2H for you? This is the type of post-hoc thinking you have to do in order to justify Louis at such a high H2H placement. Tyson undoubtedly stops Louis. Liston, Frazier, Holyfield, even Marciano and Foreman gave him hell. He's not going to sweep that field. There's nothing wrong with placing him somewhere in the 3-5 H2H rank, even if in that case it will take a tough stretch to do so. Ali & Tyson are tops H2H at HW. They do rather marvelously against the giants and even have a chance of splitting a series against their stylistic obstacles. Louis will struggle with most of the field, and will have an extraordinary challenge against SHWs (I honestly think Wlad is the only candidate he could potentially chop down with ease).
