  3. i agree absolutely the best louis weighed 198 pounds,

  4. sonny liston in his prime was 6´0 1/2 and 210 pounds.
    He was not a monster

which fight did jack blackburn say was louis' best ??

  7. yes, then i agree, anyway i think too that liston would have chance against louis, liston was stronger,he had good skill, good stamina, the reach of valuev and a very hard jab.

i rate both louis and liston, i couldn't pick.liston had the best hook off a jab that i've seen from a heavyweight champ.

There is no way to prove it one way or another.

What we can prove is that Lisons resume would fit into Louis's several times over.

That is why Louis is routinely ranked as a top 2 all time heavyweight.

    He delivered in the ring.

If there has ever been a more balanced and beautiful combination punching bomber than the 'brown one' ive never seen or heard of him. And that includes p4p and all the realms of history. Only arguello is even close in terms of textbook bombery.
    The purest of pure punchers.

For me Joe Louis is in my super 6 for the Greatest modern cruiserweight (200 ring weight 210).

Ali, Joe Louis, Holyfield, Dempsey, Jack Johnson and fraser. Ali wins for me, Holyfield or Joe Louis get second.

Ali is the only one i would put in my heavyweight super 6.

Joe has the best heavyweight reign. However the 2 to 3 year gap in the second world war did him no favours and he was not as good afterwards. More importantly the standard between 1944 and 1949 was poor. If he had met the fighters 1937 to 1941 at their peak after 1945 I think he would have lost at least a couple of fights.

Lennox Lewis ruled for ten years, yes with the odd blip when he could not be assed and got koed by a nobody. On form Lewis always had the edge on several all time greats. yes a lot of fights did not happen, bowe to scared and Tyson 4 millions dollars to avoid him. That kind of makes the point though.

Ali, ruled for 3 years, nobody ever looked close. He then lost 3 years due to politics, these were problably his best years. He came back met an all time great in Joe fraser and failed. He spent three years fighting back and then had another dominate era of three years. Avenging his defeats. So Ali gets top billing, then Lennox Lewis and then Joe Louis on achievements.

After these three, I have Holmes as he has nearly twenty title wins over seven years against weaker oppentents overall than Ali, Joe and lennox.

Next you have Jack Johnson, Tyson, Patterson and Dempsey (7 years as champ, but with a three year gap to his last heayweight title bout when he lost his crown so it is four years)

    Heavyweight super six,

Lennox, Ali, Holmes, Foreman, Vitial, 1987 Tyson.

Bowe, Wladimir, Lyle and Tony Tucker I would have on stand by.

In sumary, I find the members of this board eminently fair in rating Joe Louis's resume.

I think he gets sold short somewhat in head to head matches principaly because his durability is under rated. He gets brought into the "punchers chance" zone by many posters when he3 is probably outside it for practical purposes.
