Joe Louis was the ultimate puncher and was capable of taking out ANY heavyweight champion of history..Ali included.

Its not a matter that Louis is a legend, just look at him in action. Louis defeated all styles, KO'd Big Men, as Big and Heavy as they are today and he handled them all dominantly. A prime Louis never lost a fight, defended his title against real contenders with no split titles 25 times and sometimes fought once a month. Louis was the greatest power combination puncher ever, not only in the Heavyweight division. I think he handles the Klitchko's, Holmes, by stoppage and would also KO Lennox Lewis and Tyson, these fights would not be without danger but Joe would prevail. His toughest fights would be over Ali,Marciano and Dempsey but I think he finds a way to prevail.

    Ali- Ali W 15
    Holmes- Louis W 15
    Marciano- Louis KO 14
    Johnson- Johnson W 15
    Lewis- Louis W 15
Foreman- Louis KO 6 (I think this would be the most painful match ever)
    Dempsey- Louis W 15
    Frazier- Louis KO 4
    Holyfield- Louis KO 12
    Tunney- Louis KO 8
Liston- I can't call this one. Someone knocks someone out before the 10th.
    Tyson- Louis KO 10
    Norton- Louis KO 8
    Bowe- Louis KO 6
    Wlad- Louis KO 9
    Vitali- Louis KO 9
    Patterson- Louis KO 2
    Tua- Louis KO 3

And Mendoza have you watched Louis vs Marciano? Louis actually had good chances in that fight. An under developed Marciano was missing a lot of punches, and when he did connect, Louis took them well. It took Marciano 8 rounds I believe to knock Louis out.

Do you have any idea how old Louis was? What kind of fighter do you know can fight like that at such an old age, barring Foreman. People forget that Louis was winning fights right before fighting Rocky.

i like your predictions but no way does norton last til the 8th and no way does tua get knocked out in 3. i'd say switch em and even that is selling tua's chin short. ANYONE can get knocked out but tua is gonna have to take a hell of a beating first. bowe i think lasts marginally longer if he's the bowe of holyfield and ferguson

I hear you. It just that when dealing with a (IMO) top 5 puncher in history fighting any HW great, the opponents chin is not as much of a factor as the style clash is.

As for Norton, I picked him to go down in the 8th, because I don't see Louis rushing to do the job, the way Foreman and Shavers did. I don't think Foreman, and especially Shavers, wanted to take Norton to the later rounds. I don't think Louis would have minded. But having said, I think your right. I might have been too generous to Norton

good point though. in terms of styles, tua lacks the fitnese to avoid louis and outbox him. whereas norton had a tremendous jab, used his reach and could be awkwardly effective. he could create a situation where louis would take a few rounds to close the distance and figure him out. it's just that when he did, lights out

It happened again the word I am using could refer to a flaw in armour or is racist slang for someone chinese, I am an Australian married to a chinese wife so I am obviously using the word in reference to armour. There is automated censorship on this site.

I thought Walcott won more rounds period. I wonder if you have a different version of the highlights, because on mine Walcott is the clearly the better.

Where did I say the knockdowns made a difference on who I felt won the fight? I think your quoting me out of context here.

Does your version have the booing of the decision?

I'd say any sentence reading "Joe Louis...just not that great?" comes across as both laughable and ridiculous, like "Earth...not really inhabited?"

Joe Louis had it. He had the magic of knockout power in his fists, but far from being a mindless brute, he honed his natural skills into a refined boxer/puncher style unique for his and all time. He will look great on film forever, because, on the attack, he is fistic fundamentals personified.

The whole body as an explosive weapon! The leverage he applied behind every smooth, textbook shot! The pivoting feet, perfect counterparts to those demolishing fists!

Plus, the man had character, consistency, coolness under pressure. He ruled the boxing world and in the world's imagination for 11 years and 25 straight title defenses, both untouchable heavyweight records for 60 years and counting.

    Joe Louis is respect.
