Joe Louis, Underrated or just not that great???

Yes, I think they enjoyed the cat and mouse aspects of boxing. Everyone loves action, but today any lack of activity is just running or not trying to win a fight. The one difference though is that today Walcott would be rewarded the winner due to the significance of knockdowns. But barring that, under the same rule-set people would view Walcott as having been too negative I think.

You would hear stuff like "He only threw 15-20 punches a round. How can you throw 10 punches in some rounds and win a fight?"

1. Ali
2. Johnson
3. Louis


I always told myself I automatically respect anyone who has those three as their top 3 in any order.

 

What about people who have the same fluidity of order, but with Holmes in lieu of Johnson? :think

Well, I have Ali at #1 and Louis at #2, but if I was forced to switch them I sure wouldn't lose any sleep over it. They're THAT close...in my opinion.

It's just a very surprising thing to hear.

Don't get me wrong, Jack's terrifying. For anybody to KO Louis in three rounds is an enormous statement, though.

 

To be honest with you I read a matchup of these two in an old boxing mag,and the prediction was Dempsey early,and every reason given made sense to me. I cannot claim to have the original idea, but it is one I do beleive, after thinking hard about it.
I am very aware the overwhelming majority will disgree with me.
I think Jack jumps on Louis early and gets him out of there , of course,if the fight goes more than 6 rds, Louis's chances increase dramatically.
