Joe Louis has the better legacy but it is very difficult to put the guys before Sonny Liston against the Super heavyweights from Liston onwards. If they are as big as each other then Joe Louis definitely. Unfortunately they are not.
I love Joe Louis but I see Lewis being too big. When the skill level is relatively close you have to go with size and Lewis was 45 lbs Heavier and 3 inches taller. Maybe Louis could press in close and apply pressure like Ray Mercer but you have to have a Merciless chin to pull that off. The Lion by late KO. Sorry Joe.
Come on man - I know you love oldtimers, but how do you envisage Louis winning? Few people actually outboxed Lennox, and he did have a great chin - lost more due to lack of focus and discipline than anything else... Also you never replied to my calzaghe/hopkins pm!!!!
Some people will never praise Lewis. If anything, he is underrated still. When he retired everyone realized what an incredibley talented and skilled fighter he really was. Especially in comparison to the so-called HW champions of today.
If ordinary palookas like McCall and Rahman could take advantage of those shaky whiskers, an ATG like Joe Louis would bomb this guy out early.
Too much difference in weight and high is very difficult to match modern heavys vs old timers the new breed are much bigger.
Bruno was putting on a clinic before he got caught, and Mercer yeah the same guy who got a boxing lesson from 41 yr old Holmes gave him hell and fought him evenly.
atsch Valuev is a top 5 guy, and I would bet the house on Louis ****ing him up, next time think before you post such nonsense.
Lewis came around at the right time and beat up bums, has beens, and fighters with mental difficulties.
Louis is better (if controlled for the era) however Lewis was big and very skilled. I voted draw because I don't like to say LL would have won, and Louis was actually very very skilled and would have given Lennox a very hard time. I still hold on to my 'draw'.
