Yes, I've been thinking about Jeanette. The way Jeanette, in the filmed fight with Langford, tries to keep everything either at long range or _close_ inside, makes me think that Jeanette would, at the very least, know the best way to fight Louis. I do think Louis catches Jeanette at some point -- then it's a great finisher vs. a great survivor. I have a feeling that, even if Jeanette is on his feet at the end, Louis's general skill level plus a few big rounds will give Louis the nod. But I think TED SPOON is right on that Jeanette could give Louis troubles.

Wills vs. Firpo makes me think Wills is a lot like a bigger Jack Johnson, but not quite so quick handed. Wills would try to wrestle Louis, give Louis some chances to back out for room and nail him as Louis is doing so. I think the likelihood is that Louis eventually catches and finishes Louis, but Louis would need to be careful and well prepared.

Louis would walk through them. Sam is the only one I think that'd really give Joe any problems

But I'm hearing a lot about Murderers Row lately..wonder who or what brought them to the light again.. :think

Bump because I think it's an interesting question. Here's what I think:

vs. Jeannette: Good technical fighter with a solid jab, also tough as nails. Had a great chin, but not invincible. Louis TKO 9.
vs. McVey: Hard puncher with subpar boxing skills, even judged by those of his own time. He would be demolished quickly by Joe. Louis KO4.
vs. Langford: Definitely the toughest fight here. Sam is a beast, and would give Joe a war. In a trilogy, I'd give Sam one. However, I can see Louis coming off of the canvas to finish Langford late. Louis TKO 14.
vs. Wills: Beats Wills handily. Louis KO5.

Langford may be well acquainted with some of the techniques Louis employees after Langford faced Blackburn so many, at least a bit of something must have been picked up by Sam that he would find useful. And Louis could have some similar advantages Blackburn may have had.

I think it makes for a very interesting fight.

Langford might be the toughest fight for Louis pre-Ali IMO, and that says a lot.

Threads are fun and it's fun to chat boxing but if we're straight up about it, there is no point in matching him with dudes that aren't Muhammad Ali or way bigger than him. He met with the practitioner of perhaps the most difficult style for him (hitting without announcing himself, not there to be hit as clearly as it might seem himself) and won by KO.

    Rest ye olde thread, rest.

All due respect, but didn't you favor Langford over Louis a while back?

I think it's a shame there's such little footage of the Murderers Row and not enough info at least to make it to these times of them. Literally may b just one book called, "Charles Burley and the Murderers Row" or something like that of them. Will do my due diligence to get it along w at least two books of Louis if I can.

I assume you're referring to Louis, which is fair. He would beat most people smaller than him, but I would consider Langford as a possible exception. He was too smart to get into a slugfest with Joe, and hit hard enough to make him respect his power. Langford's chin and intellect would bring him into later rounds. This is just my opinion
