Joe Louis V The Original Murderers Row

If it's 1935-1943 Joe Louis time-machined back to that day, he might walk thru them -- though I think Langford would be a bit of danger, and Jeanette and McVea might make things tough, in different ways. Jeanette might be a tree that takes quite a few wacks, McVea might give him Tony-Galento type moments. Or maybe Joe walks through them.
If Joe came along in their day with his natural endowment and developed to the environment/opportunity/sport-evolution in ratio to how he had in '35-'43, I'd favor Joe in all the match-ups, but it would probably be more cchallenging, and any of these guys would have had a chance if they caught Joe in a Schmeling-I like distraction. I would FAVOR Langford over Louis if Sam faced a distracted Louis who'd come along (been born into) in that milieu.

 

That’s thinking outside the box, I like it - literally, we are not exactly who we were yesterday, and even further removed from whoever we were over longer time.

In future, unless I receive a refute/reply on the same day as the post in question, I might also exercise the more than arguable “That wasn’t me” approach as and when appropriate.

And I’m sure it will be appropriate going forward - the records held here go way too far back. I’m only good for remembering as far back as yesterday anyway.

 

This is a good thread - even if only for the extraction of Langford (from the murderers row) as a semi live underdog.

Louis vs Ali has been done to death - also, I wonder if anyone has changed on their orig. position re Joe vs Muhammad.

I’ve remained open to other opinions but my analysis of the match hasn’t really changed much at all.

If anything, being availed of even greater and clearer vision of Louis has only served to affirm my opinion of Joe’s positive chances vs Ali.
