Imagine raving on about a glass jawed journeyman ranked in the top 20 as if going life and death with this individual somehow makes Povetkin look good. Louis would have sent Price to the ER in the first round. If you're referring to Billy Conn, a fast mobile small target is that much harder to hit. As soon as Louis landed something significant, the fight was over. Louis actually had an easier time with larger men.
Are you saying that fighters didn't bob and weave before the 70s, or that it seems to be more common on film post-60s?
Nono, I was saying it became it become much more common from the 50s onwards. I can only think of Dempsey pre 50s among HWs who bobbed and weaved, but I can think of four in the 50s alone who did, and it keeps getting more common after that. I guess it could be because I’m less knowledgeable, but I still feel at least more champs should use it for it to be considered a staple.
Conn would be a lightheavyweight or probably even super middleweight if he fought Louis with modern techniques. When you’re getting divisions below your opponent, the speed becomes way less of a factor than the size. That’s why you don’t see guys moving up weighing 154 pounds and defeating slow behemoths. Even at 175, guys on the smaller side back then would just be at to much of a disadvantage.
You've obviously never had to spar or fight a smaller skilled guy with annoying lightning footwork. There's a reason even today sometimes heavyweights spar with smaller division guys when preparing for fast opponents. You're acting like a heavyweight is supposed to brutally knock out any light heavyweight with a single jab.
But see he would have to adjust to Dokes speed as Dokes was one of the fastest heavyweights that ever won a world title. And that's a fact. But see unlike Pov Joe can adjust and win even when he is behind.
Byrd who was DONE when he met Pov? He got knocked out by Shaun George in his very next fight and Retired. Rahman was DONE as well. He had been knocked out by both Waldimir and Oleg prior. Whyte ???? Really. That's one of his prime performances when he's in his FOURTIES???? Huck was a cruiserweight. Who the h*ll is Perez? Chagaev was a good win. And that's about it. You actually tried to put on a performance that he did in his forties????
Price was an accident waiting to happen and that's it. The fact that Price is even being used as an example for Pov tells you all you gotta know.
Jersey Joe Walcott James Braddock Max Schemling Billy Conn Max Baer Buddy Baer- 6'6 with an 84 inch reach. Bob Pastor Tell me I'm curious in Povs best opponent when he lost to Waldimir how many rounds did you give him? And why didn't he have any success ? And Pov in my opinion LOST to Hunter.
Pov beat Hunter, he should have been awarded that KD, so even the judges wouldn't have taken it from him. People who say Hunter won basically always say he won 115-113. With that KD even people who think Hunter won would have only score it 114-113. Meanwhile people who think Povetkin won score it 115-113 or 116-112. With that KD they'd score it 115-112 or 116-111. And Huck doesn't count because he's a cruiserweight, but Joe Louis, who is the same size as Huck, would beat Povetkin? And Billy Conn was a hard fight even though he's the size of a modern super middleweight? Bizarre logic. I think CWs moving up to HW have had a good amount of success recently.
Billy Conn is in the HOF is he not? Huck in the HOF genius? Never said Huck didn't count said he wasn't even a heavyweight and you classified that as one of Povs "Prime" wins.
