Max would be at physical disadvantage, but I still disagree that Wlad would dominate him so much. Remember that Povetkin himself was basically the same height with the same reach as Schmeling.
Well, if he decided to use this "strategy" he did against Povetkin, then maybe but I fail to see how is that relevant? Schmeling was better than Povetkin anyway.
Schmeling at his best was pretty good but I disagree with him being flat out better. I think Povetkin is an extremely well rounded boxer that combines the best qualities of Schmeling, such as his head movement, with a complete offensive package for fighting in the wheelhouse of an opponent. Frankly I'm sad that Povetkin never fought more often during his career; after a high level start he fought filler for quite a while before picking up the quality again. I think if the Klitschkos hadn't been around he'd have been the king and by a clear margin.
I also think that Povetkin was extremely good, but I don't agree that he'd beat all Louis opponents. Louis competition is extremely stacked.
Man, I'm not that high on most of Louis' opposition. I will say that Louis himself was outstanding, and part of the reason is that he looks like a modern top boxer in a division of guys that didn't really know what they were doing, with a few exceptions. His speed and accuracy are what impress me the most, but he does have flaws such as not the greatest footwork and not that much head movement. he may not have needed that against most of the guys he faced but he'd need it against Povetkin. Sasha was a very high level boxer right out of the gates, and in his early incarnations he had some pretty nifty in and out footwork and was damn fast himself. Check out this clip. I disagree very strongly with that, but it was debated so much in this forum that at this point I think it's pointless to argue it again. No disagreement here, I think that Sasha is very good, one of the better non-champion HWs ever in fact.
People don't always age at the same rate when it comes to wear and tear. Pretty disingenuous to use Louis in his last fight when you know he had a long layoff and an incredibly long career fighting several times a year.
Povetkin losing to Wladimir is irrelevant since WK is practically a different species of boxer compared to Louis, Schmeling. Klitschko would beat both Louis and Schmeling one after another on the same night.
