Louis had size power and skills and a great left jab..he won more rounds vs Marciano than Archie did. I think Louis has a great shot at out pointing Archie and I make Louis the favorite. Archie's face would look like a mess after this one What makes you think Moore would thrash him?
1950/51 were Louis's last 2 years as a fighter . He had 10 fights during that period won 8 lost 2. He scored 3 stoppages : 1. Andy Walker, a ham & egger whose record was 17-8-7 he would have 11 subsequent fights and lose them all ,5 by stoppage. 2.Lee Savold ,at 36 nearly as old as Louis . Savold was a ring worn pug by the time Louis fought him,he had 140 fights and 800 rds under his belt when he fought Louis That's a hell of a lot of mileage on the clock. He would have one more fight being sloppily beaten up by Marciano ,then retire. 3.Freddie Beshore, a very game mob controlled fighter , he had a good chin but was a bleeder. Beshore had been badly beaten up by Charles before being stopped 5 months earlier. He had lost his last 4 fights when he faced Louis. Louis stopped him on cuts. Louis being a rated fighter during this period does not indicate he was still a great fighter or even a reasonable facsimile of one ,it indicates just how great he had been in his prime.imo. In summary Louis did not still have his power, and his jab was noticeably slower, his right hand was, sheathed" in a scabbard of rust and indecision" .[I pinched that description but it is a very apt one]. Archie Moore would have done a number on the slowed to a walk , virtually one handed Louis.
Moore decisions him, not as convincingly as Charles did, but a clear win. Moore has the power to stop him, but I doubt he would push the issue.
Who did Moore ever fight that had the size, left jab, skills, ring iq, power of a joe louis? This would be a very tough fight for Moore.
Who did Charles fight like that prior to Louis? Or Walcott? Louis looks vulnerable at this stage to elite counter punchers. It wouldn't be easy though for Moore, he's going to take a few licks like he did against Valdez.
Yep. And Joe Louis knocked out Nino Valdes in 1 round in 1950. Charles did not fight anyone like that which is why he was the underdog. Charles was also better than Archie
Mccvey with his typical nonsense. Louis destroyed those guys. He would have destroyed the opponents Moore faced too
And Valdez beat Charles in 53. That's a matter of individual match ups. Charles was better than Archie, but Archie was a close #2. Moore carried heavier hands than Charles, and superior at firing a heavy right counter over the jab. Something older Louis was prone to in the Walcott and Marciano fights.
Joe Louis, in the time frame given in the thread isn't the "Brown Bomber" anymore. Still a formidable fighter though. I give the edge to Archie by close decision. I could see both fighters hitting the canvas. Joe, isn't able to get those combinations off like he once could.
