Billy Conn would knock Butterbean out in about 90 seconds, possibly less. Joe Louis would very probably kill him.

Butterbean was never, ever, never a real pro boxer. Just about every fight was against a guy handpicked to lose, like he was against Holmes. Butterbean was a sideshow clown and to mention him in the same breath as real fighters is stupid.

Yeah I think people look into things to much. Regardless of style, anybody who ever lived would have a better chance of beating a 52 year old Holmes than a prime Joe Louis.

joe louis never faced a 400lb athlete with evolved nutrition, training methods and evolved boxing skills!

probably with good reason...noone was dumb enough to enter a ring looking like butterbean back then.

There were a few novelty fighters similar to Butterbean in the 1930’s.

They didn’t get far, which is why we don’t talk about them.

ah you have it. Those who did mention them back then were the ancestors of the same people who begin these threads, no doubt. Everyones gotta come from somewhere, its been said.

No statements say he was a novelty. Might have just been a really big guy

Bob Fitzsimmons fought a 300lbs Millard Zender, at 160lbs bodyweight no less. He also knocked him out in the first round.

Fitz also fought a 260lbs 6'4" Ed Dunkhorst, knocked him out in the 2nd round
