Louis was a sharpshooter. If you do not believe the best Louis would hit Tua at will please find another sport to follow.

Louis lands every punch? Get out of here. It's comments like these that have "modernists" (quite like that) scoffing, for good reason.

Louis would most certainly find his mark.

Tua had no means to stop the combinations that would be coming his way. John needs to get to know what Joe Louis was all about.

I think you need to ease back on the hyperbole a bit to give your opinion more clout.

John knows exactly what Joe Louis was about, without having to resort to BS in an attempt to get the message thru. Remember, Joe is on film and can be readily checked out.

Kool Kev can just go and watch Louis - Galento and see Louis missing plenty of punches in the first round on the defensively ordinary Galento, a handful even looking somewhat wild as they fly past Galento's head without touching a thing.

Against Tua however he lands every punch? Not a chance.

It would be fair to say Louis is probably the most accurate and precise puncher ever and he will have little troubling landing plenty of leather on Tua. "Every punch" tho just gets thrown out as glorifying the old timers when seen by many of the younger brigade, rightfully so.

The other thing to take out of the fight is that Galento lands a surprising amount of left hooks and Louis would have to be extremely careful of Tua's power and sharp hook. Tua's probably got a bit more of a right hand than Galento too, Tony really favored that hook something chronic.

Good post!Too much plain and simple hero-worship in his replies.

Did Galento ever ko ,or even floor anyone with a right hand?
    Tua did.
Tua hits harder, faster,is faster afoot than Galento, and has better boxing skills and defence, he also is much less susceptible to cuts, which got Galento tko'd a couple of times ,why would he not give Louis at least the same difficulties that the slower, static ,cruder,Galento did?
Nobody has answered this question, they just keep on trotting out fan -boy superlatives about Louis.

Because it's more than possible that Tua shuts down against Louis, like he did against Lewis.

Remember, Galento was aggressive, came forward, and scratched and clawed his way into opportunities against Louis. He looks lots of risks, something that Tua seems to shy away from.

Just because Tua looks a little more refined than Galento, doesn't mean he automatically matches or surpasses his success against Louis.

There are things Galento does really well, that Tua does not.

Tua was very tough and took a punch well but Joe Louis was a class above.

I wouldn't say Tua was a Galento by any means, Tua was not a brawler in that sense but I would reckon that Louis hits him and hits him all night long. Joe would just have to be on guard against David's power.

I just did. He took risks that paid off against much greater fighters. He had tons of heart, and utilized his durability and chin to create opportunities.

One very specific thing he does that Tua doesn't, it utilize his jab as a power punch to get in close. Against Lewis, Tua paws his jab, almost never using it to actually connect, but rather as a distance measuring tool. Galento, leaps with his jab with full power behind it, sometimes double leaping with the jab to get all the way on the inside to deploy his brawler tactics and mix it up.

When you say ,"paid off against much greater fighters ",which ones did he beat?

Tua has a much better jab than Galento, you're judging him off one fight in which he was fighting a guy 7 inches taller with 14 inches of reach on him, he would have been insane to try and match jabs with Lennox.Galento had absolutely horrible footwork.
