I don't think anyone is even entertaining the idea of a Shavers victory. I think a better question would probably be: "Does Shavers knock Louis down?" I personally don't think so. Shavers could be incredibly accurate at times, but not very often to all the huge misses he would throw. Louis would never get caught by Shavers' wild haymakers. If Shavers was far behind or badly cut like he was in the Holmes fight, he might concentrate and score a subtler, more accurate punch that would deck Louis. However, Louis would more than likely not let the fight get as far as it did with Holmes. Louis hit much harder, and while probably less aggressive, he showed a lot of aggression in rematches with Abe Simon, Arturo Godoy, Max Schmeling, Buddy Baer, and Jersey Joe Walcott. Louis might have to go through hell in a fight with Shavers. The key is rematches. Joe really kicks ass in rematches. Btw, if the two were to fight twice, Shavers might give Joe a scare in the first one, after being outpunched, but Louis would come back to stop him. In the second match, Joe would come out and get Shavers out of the way as fast as possible. That was the best way to beat Shavers, Jerry Quarry style.
Louis got knocked down by Tony Galento bro let's not try and make Galento into something he wasn't now.
Louis via KO anywhere from rounds 1-3, there's a chance Louis gets rocked or knocked down but other than that he beats Shavers pretty easily.
He just surprised Louis imo. Most fighters up to this point were gun-shy against Louis. I think Galento had the element of surprise, but was mostly lucky. Shavers was also wild, but was overall a way better fighter who was capable of throwing carefully timed and meticulously accurate punches when he wanted to.
Well- I think if Shavers could put Louis down even once he won’t get back up- However Louis would most likely butcher Earnie methodically very quickly.
Louis early rounds KO. Shavers might have a moment but it's a "might". Louis would light him up at the finish with those pinpoint lack of consciousness inducing combinations. Louis was often at his most lethal just after being hurt.
I think it's very unlikely, Louis stays down if he gets knocked down. His durability, and more specifically his recuperative ability, was amazing. He got up all but twice, and that was after taking hellacious beatings, and having already been knocked down.
He's like Holmes a bit in that regard. They got knocked down and hurt a bit but they recovered really well and were always going to get up at least once it's safe to say. Louis got stopped twice in his career, once as he was emerging and learning a lesson he never forgot and in his last ever fight against an emerging ATG.
A lot of times Louis went down, it was due to a flash knockdown. He was truly hurt very few times in his career. The Scmeling first fight is an example where he was truly hurt, but Max had to unload dozens of hurtful shots to put Louis down. Shavers wasn't as technically precise as Schmeling who exploited a (then) weakness, and the extra power he had wouldn't count for much. The chances of Shavers landing that one big one is very slim, and the chances of it keeping Louis down even slimmer. Straightforward Louis knockout.
