Louis did not immediately rematch Charles because he said he felt “rusty, overweight” and needed a bunch of real pro fights to sharpen up his skills before fighting charles again. After Louis knocked out Savold, he said “I’m ready”. Talks happened with Charles, but he blew it with the loss to Walcott in July

In his autobiography Louis states he was pissed off when Walcott landed that left and ko'd Charles because he knew Walcott wouldnt entertain hm as a challenger.
