Speed he had indeed, but his accuracy seems greater cause he fought stiff bums.
Put him against slick boxers and he gets embarrassed.

You're simply outlining some weaker opponents he fought. I was talking about their best opponents.

    Lyle poleaxes him.

He will rarely get in close. He lacks the footwork to do so. Foreman manhadles him.

Nope. Louis's jab wouldn't do **** to Foreman.

Problem is this opponent hits harder than anyone he's ever faced, fights completely different than anyone he's ever faced, and has a decent skillset too.
Foreman won't stand close to Louis and try to trade shot for shot, the way Louis is used, so he can use his superior speed and combos to end it, Foreman will not let him set his punches, the way he did with Frazier, and punch from a safe distance.
And even if they trade shot for shot, Foreman always wins cause he hits way harder and has a much better chin.

    That will always be Foreman.

Nope. Louis has a weak chin, he was dropped by small men.

If Foreman lands big, it's all over for Louis.

If they fight 100 times, Foreman wins 100 times.
Louis gets beat by pretty much all more modern ATGs.

So, whilst the 196lbs Peralta took Foreman 10 rounds in both of their fights, you don't think Louis would see round 2?

You don't think Louis would last as long as the 3-25-2 Clarence Boone or the 1-14-1 Joe Murphy Gordwin (who was stopped in the 1st round in both fights prior to Foreman, by Terry Kruger and Richie Yant) did?

Foreman is favourite based on chin, But Louis was an absolute great puncher. Hard to call.

We're taking prime Foreman here, after he beat Frazier.

His fights with Boone and Gordwin were less than 12 months before Frazier 1.

The 4-15 Terry Sorrell fought Foreman just 3 months before Frazier 1 and also lasted longer than you've predicted Louis would.

Now that I've found the ignore function, it's really nice not to have to deal with trolls (and I can see who it is, and I can imagine what the poster is saying given his track record which caused me a long time ago to decide simply not to engage him in conversation let alone debate, and he didn't take me at my word when I informed him of such) who like to get a rise out of people and hear themselves speak (at least through their keyboards).

I ignore White Bomber 99% of the time and don't take him seriously 100% of the time.

Every now and again it amuses me to expose the ignorance and/or stupidity of some of his posts. Frankly, that reflects poorly on me.

Louis never saw anything quite like big George in strength and power but ......I have no problem seeing Joe throwing lighting fast short hard shots inside the wide swings and putting the hurt on him ....I also don't see Joe letting him off the hook once he got his range in close and felt his power and strength. George could pull a Frazier/Norton blowout

But did George ever face a puncher with both the power and accuracy of Louis?

It’s been 72 years since he fought and I know he’s become a two-dimensional face in the history books to folks and I guess it’s become trendy to diss him, but again the only person I’d pick over Louis in a fight would be Ali, who was superior to Foreman, I think Ali would have won a pre-Manila rematch with Foreman easier than Zaire, and I don’t think Ali would have a perfect batting average in a multi-fight series with Louis.

    Foreman improved with every fight.
But more importantly, those men fought differently than Louis. Louis will come forward towards Foreman, sigining his own death sentence.

If we only look at max power with a single punch at HW, Louis ain't even top 10 all time.
And his accuracy looks much better than it actually is due to him mainly facing stiffs and bums.

Liston, Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe, the K brothers, Fury - they all beat him with ease.
Hell, I'd even favor the likes of Douglas, Tucker, Morrison, Mercer, Tua, Ike, Golota, Haye, Usyk, Joshua - to beat him.
It's between Louis and Ali for the HW GOAT crown, given what Louis did in his own era, but put him in other eras and he woudn't even be a contender.

Just out of curiosity, do you think poorly of Joe Louis and his skills?

Your username made me assume you appreciated him since it appears to be a play on the 'brown bomber'.

I am in the same boat but strongly disagree it reflects poorly on us. Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do Greg. Even if in vain it still brings about it's own amusement and enjoyment, and not just for us i'd wager.

Two of my all time favorite heavyweights...

Louis had fast hands, massive power in nice tight shots, and feet that kept him in his preferred range without compromising his stance. He wouldn't rush into George, which might help prevent him from easily getting bullied or taking wide hooking shots.

On the other hand, I personally think Foreman is the greatest physical freak in heavyweight history. He really was a monster. If he ended up in the right range and was able to disrupt Joe's stance and start landing a series of shots, he could finish the fight.

Interestingly, George ranks Joe Louis as the all time greatest heavyweight and thinks EVERYONE else is a distant second according to the rankings on his website (not sure if they're still there).
