with the new cruiserweight limit at 200lbs this could have been possible if they where fighting during the same era. louis needs no introduction but at cruiser qawi and holyfeild where absolute monsters with solid chins that where as physically tough in the jr. heavyweight/cruiser division as many are in the heavyweight division. i think the holyfield that fought qawi in their first fight would have at least some kind of chance against the great joe louis.
I pick Louis to win against either of these men at that weight class. Holyfield was too green and underdeveloped, while Qawi was past his prime and never really at Louis's level regardless.
Qawi could get damned low when he came in. Godoy used that to debatably get a points win over Louis. Troubled him to no end.
Yeah Joe Louis had problems with guys who would crouch. He did normally beat them though BUT they did cause him problems.
Qawi gets KOd for sure by Louis, Holyfield might lose on pts but I think Joe at least TKOs him. Just too fast & powerfull IMO.
I'd pick Louis, but both fighters would give him something to think about, especially Evander. It's quite possible that Qawi, a tough and rugged hombre who as noted crouched pretty low, could take Louis all the way to a decision. Louis has too much class ultimately for Qawi, but I think he could be made to look quite ordinary at times by Qawi too. Evander...I tell you what, this would be interesting. Cast iron chin, undentable will and very good power for a cruiserweight. He was positively dominant at the weight and had a good corner behind him. The problem with Evander is that at some point he's going to trade with Louis, which is not a great idea. I see many heated exchanges with Evander coming off the worst in most of them, but Evander was a tough cookie who would push Louis into some uncomfortable places, of that I'm certain. I'd pick Louis to eventually crack Holyfield's chin though. Anything he hit solidly and often crumbled before him, and even a durable guy like Evander has his limits. Eventually, Evander is going to make that mistake which allows Louis to capitalise, and Louis was as deadly a finisher as there's ever been. I reckon the ref saves Evander from further punishment around round 11 or 12, with the scorecards being surprisingly even up until then. Louis may also find himself on the floor at some point.
all good points, something that i keep thinking about was the billy conn fight. i remember my friend and i talking about it a while ago and i spoke that i knew about the fight. then i openly assumed that conn was out boxing louis. he looked at me suprised and said that conn was taking it to louis. he more of a casual fan then a hard core fan but it leads me to think that a high quality opponant could last with louis. still i understand that the facts are relavant and joe louis did reign for 13 years:admin so i could all the evidence that he would be both good fighters.
Conn was outboxing Louis for the majority of the fight. Conn was only really taking it to Louis towards the end of the fight. It was Conn's big mistake. It got his ass KOed.:deal Think Ketchel/Johnson another BIG mistake.
