Obviously Joe Louis is greater than Johansson and I would expect Louis to win inside 5 rounds.
I still think Johansson is being a tad underestimated here though.
There's no doubts about it that right hand was a real weapon of destruction.
When you look at the first knockdowns of Patterson,Folley and Richardson they really do hit the deck hard, they were really out of the blue, the power is really evident.
He is a live underdog here, but only if Joe got careless, other than that the Brown Bomber simply has too many tools.

Agreed...any fireworks provided by Ingo enroute to his demise vs Louis would be predicated on Louis being careless or complacent, which did happen from time to time while he was on the BOTM tour. Ingo's footwork is indeed being discounted somewhat in this forum though.

He had the perfect footwork to maximize his offensive strengths.

"Good boxing" is all about results. Not every fighter benefits from the same style and approach.

Ingo got beat up twice trading with Floyd Patterson. That doesn't bode well for him lasting long against the best combination puncher of all time.

Not being stationary does not then mean the fighter has good footwork. Just because a fighter is stepping around the ring does not mean said fighter has good footwork.

Good footwork is using it to get into
range to land and utilising it to get back out of range without taking return fire and Ingo was good at it.

Ingo was a ****py hwt. If a fighter is compared to Carnera on the ****py fighter scale you know it's pretty bad.

Neither are favourites of mine. Ingo won the title legitimately he had a great right hand that he set up with a range finding left.
I would expect Louis to ko him , my bone of contention is assertions that his foot work was bad. I don't see that in film.

Ingo was a bum? The era must have been horrible then, because if the heavyweight champion of the world was a bum the rest of the division must have been unimanginably bad...

Ingo was a bum compared to the list of hwt champions before and after him. With he Leon Spinks or Carnera was the worst.

So, outside of sopho moric namecalling, you really don't have any substantial critique here.

Understood. No need to repeat yourself.

No need for words just watch him fight. Big right hand but only a big right hand, not durable, no hook, a pawing jab and he moves like an amateur in the ring.
