The big difference here is Louis fought the best available over a span of two decades. Dempsey did not fight the best of his era, he did not even fight the two best of his era. Louis is proven against the elites, Dempsey is not.

Louis only lost to hall of famers in here primes. He was never knocked out cold by a 37 year old journeyman or beaten by a fat average fighter. He was never knocked down 9 times in one round by a below .500 fighter.

Schmeling was in his prime...he has the best performance of his career in 36 and looked great in 37-38 knocking out title challenger Harry Thomas. Even after the Louis fight he smashed Adolph heuser in 1 round in 1939. No drop off mentally or physically for Schmeling 36-38..he looked in great shape..his confidence was sky high


You have a lot of excuses for Dempsey. There are always excuses for him for everything. I never hear any excuses made for Louis. Louis didn't need any.
