And Louis Didn't. If Jack can connect he can bust up Louis. Louis would look great until his chin betrayed him

More than even a great chin, It helps when you are only fighting bar owners, ranch hands and miners...

Holyfield was a lifeguard. So Riddick Bowe's best win was against an ex lifeguard.

Are you saying that Dempsey was physically afraid of Wills?

If you want facts, neither man was good on defense; both had issues with movement and speed. Both could be floored by what some fans would consider light heavyweight or bums, and both guys were stopped by fighter under 200 pounds.

What we all probably agree on it both Dempsey and Louis had top-end speed and power, so it comes down to whoemver lands their best stuff first. Agreed there?

I'd slightly favor Dempsey here on styles, and the fact that Louis mentioned he didn't like to be crowded, but Dempsey would need to be at his best, which was a for a very short period of time. If Dempsey fights like he did vs. Firpo or Brennan, Louis is going to win.

I love Jack Dempsey but if anybody is tailor made for Joe Louis it’s gotta be Jack, Louis would be too accurate and finish the job, probably inside 4 rounds

I don't think fast ,bob and weave, two fisted punchers were tailor made for Louis. Louis was knocked down by left hooks 3 times, twice when prime, neither of those who turned the trick had the speed or finishing ability of Dempsey. Conversely Dempsey was floored by right hands from the lumbering Firpo.
It's perfectly reasonable to pick Louis here, but not on the basis of a style advantage, imo.

If it's Dempsey going into 1919 and Louis is champ I'd pick Dempsey to get him out of there after weathering the storm of jabs. He'd find a chink in the armor imo. Any other version and I'd say Louis by late stoppage all the way. Very good fight. Dempsey had the edge in pure savagery and will to win while Louis brought the skill. Not to say either fighter lacked one or the other. This would truly have been amazing to watch.

Dempsey has the Style advantage. Louis himself said he didn't like to be crowded. According the the astute Mill Lane, Louis has a certain range he liked to operate in. I agree.

Both guys were floored by people who would not be in the top ten today, at heavyweight and stopped by sub 200 pound heavyweight. Yeah it can go either way.

From 1953 when asked dempsey vs louis , the two best ever , sharkey said" ...from my experience I figure dempsey would be the winner; maybe in the first round. "
