Jack Demspsey 4th round ko. I see Dempsey forcing his way in close and pounding Louis with short hooks that would eventually send him to the floor. Then again it is Joe Louis so it could go either way. Regardless I wouldn't put money on either.

I see your point: how long could a clash between Toledo Dempsey and Schmelling-II Louis last? But Willard was no Louis and certainly the rematch Schmeling was no Dempsey.

I see a bit of Hagler-Hearns early on, but believe both have the durability and defense to avoid a finishing blow. I see this going a bit along the lines of Leonard-Hearns I, an exciting tide-turning classic in which it's too bad only one can win.

There's a telling difference in the material of these two men. Dempsey had the more natural, better forged rudiments - he was more of a fighters fighter.

History tells us that Dempsey has the better cards in this particular deal:

When they come head-to-head, Dempsey's feet and speedy charges are going to put the counter-puncher Louis in an awkward place. Dempsey should be able to make a dint sooner in Louis rather than vice-versa and the type of fight it would automatically melt into should favour the Mauler.

This has always been quite a comfortable one for Ted Spoon.

Dempsey's work creates pit holes for Louis'. Joe is going to find it hard to set up the ducking n' diving, slipping n' weaving Dempsey who rushed a good boxing brain into malfunction. The point about Louis' stationary nature would also play against him in this fight. The more room Dempsey has to work with the greater his chances are of playing you - ducking your probes and then opening you up.

As fabulous a puncher as Louis was he needs more to defeat Dempsey. Any bland explanations of Louis' more technically savvy delivery winning the day are void. He needs more. Louis worked brilliantly when he had his mans range, but not even Tunney truly had Dempsey's measure - he fought scared, smart fights and always praised Dempsey after as if he had escaped a lions cage.

It's an explosive fight where they quickly say hello but Dempsey exerts his trump cards to win in the first handful of rounds. Manoeuvrability, resourcefulness and general styles give Jack a golden edge in this tactical punch-up.

Dempsey early to mid-round KO unless Louis establishes a jab. In that case, Louis by mid-late round KO.

all I will say is that I would hate to be caught coming in by Louis. That scenario could turn bad verry quickly.

Take a pill chill dude. Floored and stunned are two different things. If Louis gets his bell rung against Dempsy he's in big trouble with his upright stance and lack of mobility. My God, Billy Conn nearly had him out.
