We are talking Louis at his best. Louis at his best takes apart Frazier at his best. Frazier was too easily timed and Louis had too many tools to rely upon. Landing a left hook on THE BEST Louis does not mean you beat him. Walking into a fight with such a great fighter with only a left hook to rely upon rarely has a positive outcome.

I think I must have missed the fights where guys easily timed prime Joe Frazier.

Technically he would move his head but not his legs. Ali constantly tagged him with follow up hooks as he bobbed out of his crouch as did Foreman and others. With the greatest of sharpshooters at his best in the opposing corner this would be suicide.

Ali is a much easier opponent for Frazier than Louis. Ali's punching power was average, whereas Louis was a knockout artist. Frazier walked right into opponents, suicide against Louis.

Only studs like Jorge Brescia, Al Ettore, Harry Thomas, Johnny Paycheck, and Steve Ketchel (in his pro debut), etc. can make it out of the first round against the super-amazing sharpshooter and perfect specimen of a heavyweight puncher, Louis.

Galento lands flush shots on Joe and floors him in lasting through several rounds but smoking Joe exits in the first? Baer absorbs shot after shot and probably could have continued and you have even Primo lasting longer then Frazier?

A prime George Foreman couldn't keep Frazier down for the count....

It is a tough call .. if Frazier does not get clocked early .. something very few could have done but Louis certainly had the potential to be one of them ..

Yeah, Fraziers style was perfectly suited for Ali. Frazier going against an elite puncher like Louis has to be suicide. He's simply not going to survive those flush shots.

This is my knee jerk reaction too. But a lesser fighter than Frazier can last longer. Think about all the guys who lasted longer than Frazier against Foreman...

Fraziers style is awesome. It just happens to be a disaster against a couple of heavyweights from the 20th century.

Yes and know .. it's cliche but really true here that Frazier would have to be careful early .. Louis started fast and threw like lightning with terrible power .. Frazier started slow sometimes .. the only thing for sure is both had the power to KO the other ..

Great points. Foreman didn't even give Frazier a chance to get going.

Frazier would have to be on his game early, that's for sure. By the same token Louis hit the mat plenty of times too and Frazier i think is better than anyone he ever beat. It's a great match up.

Louis at his best didn't take apart Galento so it's sure no given he "takes apart" Frazier.

    Comments are void of merit.

Frazier was an exceedingly slow starter. It took him 5-6 rounds before he started to "smoke". Usually fighters Louis hit at his best did not last 5-6 rounds. Regarding Galento if you listen to what Louis himself said he went into this fight NOT wanting to ko Galento in quick fashion. He wanted to take rounds to punish Tony for the comments he made towards Joes wife prior to the fight. Again we are talking Louis at his best not an old Louis, not a Louis intent on carrying a dangerous opponent.
