Stupid comment. Marciano was never beaten, so can't we summise that he may/would have been had he fought Ali, Lewis, Tyson, etc?
You cannot state this with such certainty mate, it's really that simple. I don't give two hoots if Baer and Carnera hit him with simultaneous hooks with a knee to the balls thrown in, i am saying there's every chance Lewis' best punches given a set of circumstances could take Louis out. If you read properly instead of being so eager to reply and refute, i'm not even sure i said anything about Lewis stopping him with a single punch, did i? Next Joe will be stopping speeding bullets between his teeth. Oh for sure, Lewis biggest bombs aren't exactly that hard are they, never mind they left bigger men lifeless  Chances are Lewis both hits harder AND finishes better that the old status quo too Show me where i said anything about Louis being stopped with a single punch please.
The crucial diference is that anybody can be beaten but not anybody can be taken out with a single shot for practical purpouses. Saying that anybody could take him out with a single punch is a masive leap of faith because two eras of fighters had their share of chances and nobody did.
Nobody. I am refuting the idea that Louis is just going to wilt under his power, which some people are implying.
I've watched a fair amount of footage both on youtube and ESPN classic, of fighters like Carnera, B. Baer and Max Baer. It is clear to me that these men although large and strong, were not anywhere near as technically sound as Lennox Lewis. In Max Baer's fight with Tony Galento, there were times when he was swinging widely and aimlessly, and even missing Galanto! Carnera at times looked like Frankenstein against some of his foes. These guys were slow and crude skills. Part of the reason for their ascent to the top of the division had to do with the fact they were big men during a time when most weren't. The key difference when comparing Lewis to them, is that Lennox did not have the advantage of being a giant in a division of dwarfs. He had to rise above other large fighters by having better skills and athleticism. Therefore, it is futile to compare the big men that Louis fought and claim that he could compete with Lennox based on this weak comparison.
A better question would be could they do anything better than Lewis did? Lewis has a superior jab to them, much faster, snappier, he has a much better sense of distance/range combined with better footwork which makes him very hard to hit. He has better combinations than them and was actually pretty good at counter-punching with the right uppercut. None of them could do it like that.
