I think if they fought ten times they’d split lol. I think Marcianos unorthodox style was a nightmare for any fighter.
Cus D`Amato was on a vid on youtube that brilliantly assessed Ali vs the all-time greats and D`Amato said Marciano posed the greatest threat to Ali at that time out of the previous heavyweight champs before 1970, he told a sceptical Ali Marciano leaned down to his right meaning an opponent had to over extend with his jab cutting the distance between Marciano and their chin and that then Marciano could follow the centre line with his lead or rear hand and this would be bad for Ali, he also said the Rock`s body shots would wear Muhammad down, he rated Marciano`s chances against Ali over Louis`s, and he also didn`t argue with Muhammad when he stated that Conn gave Louis problems and that Conn didn`t have his speed, height or weight so he would beat Louis quite easily. It`s all on this briliant vid on youtube.
This content is protected Watch from 25:47 for why Marciano would have done better vs Ali than Louis.
I think Louis ,firing on all cylinders with his right hand working properly, stops Marciano by tko in about 10rds. He busted up his features pretty good with just the remnants of his jab. It would never be a walk in the park, but a Brown Bomber, with his reflexes at optimum speed picks him apart imo.
Ali stops Marciano on cuts in about 9rds,imo , too fast, too big, too fast afoot, too much height and reach advantage, plus a great chin.
Actually, some great points by Cus. The point about sustained activity is so spot on. How awesome is it to listen to those two exchange. Obvious that there is a lot of mutual respect there, too.
Oh god its two of the three i cant decide between... No way Rocky's granite chin gets cracked tho. Louis by UD/SD or Marciano by KO? yeah ill go with that
Marciano by decision. As Cus mentioned the sustained aggression, tough chin as well as the body attack. Louis still greater but I think Rocks style matching up with Joe edges it for him. Both guys would take some damage.
Tough tough fight in their primes, The Louis Marciano fought was certainly not the prime Brown Bomber so a prime Joe would be a much harder fight, still Marciano had the crowding style and powerful pressure fighter. Louis jab was always a strong instrument & a younger version would be sharper quicker & reflex able. Marciano would always be a stylistic nightmare for Joe who is my # 1 heavyweight but a tough battle for Marciano as well. Fights like this ruin fighters and if it called for a series it may destroy both men. Like Ali/Frazier took its toll on both men, Marciano vs Louis would not be a blow out & brutal for both is my guess
Charlie Goldman was asked after Rocky fought Joe Louis in October 1951...how a fight...with both men in their primes would differ...Goldman said that fight would have ended sooner...when he was asked why...he said..."Because you don't come AT Rocky Marciano!!!"
