Would have liked to see a rematch as Baer states he hurt his hand. Although could be a poor excuse he really didn’t throw it much like he normally did

Anybody know why the rematch didn't happen in September? Baer instead fought Pat Comiskey that month, while Louis didn't fight again until December against Al McCoy.

Right...I looked at that Sept "window" also. Baer destroyed Comiskey (29-1-1) in one round in September.

Would have been the same outcome.
    Baer wasn’t in Louis’ class

Sounds like Louis might have been injured.

There are a few "what ifs" around that time.

The original plan had been to match Lou Nova and Billy Conn, with the winner getting a shot at Louis!

In the end they were both promised a shot, because that would make the most money, and they were both the #1 contender at the time!

Baer lost to Lou Nova in Spring of 1941, and retired.

1941-04-04 : Max Baer 220¾ lbs lost to Lou Nova 202¾ lbs by TKO at 2:18 in round 8 of 10
    • Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
    • Referee: Arthur Donovan
Nova was knocked down for a brief one count in the 4th from a Baer right hand. Baer was knocked down by a right for a nine count, after he got up he was knocked down again by a right hand, that sent him down again. Referee Donovan stopped the bout as the count was at two.
