No. It was the opinion of tyson. He said that he would have beaten louis without doubt. He was asked about that several times. on youtube you got a recent interview.
Mike i will show you picks of past legends And you say just "i win" or he wins".

    Ali....tyson said: "ali wins"

George foreman... Tyson said: "UF... That might be close"

Joe louis... Tyson said fast: "i win"

No, that is a fairly logical scissors paper stone scenario, if not necessarily a correct one.

I don't give very much credence to the opinion of a fighter on weather or not he feels he can beat another.. Ask the opposite man the same question and see what he says.

So if he "honestly" believes that he can beat someone in the ring whom he's never met and has no common opponents with, it should be taken as gospel that he would? What if Joe Louis "honestly" believed the same thing about Tyson? Would HIS opinion hold the same weight?

yes. I never said that it was the truth necessarily. But tyson knew the boxing styles pretty well

I'm guessing he also knew the boxing styles of Douglas and Holyfield as did many of Louis's opponents being familiar with his. For the record, I'd probably favor Tyson to beat Joe Louis too.. But NOT merely because he said so himself.

tyson was not in his prime for these men. He was talking at the 100% of his capacity.

I will give you another Tyson quote about Louis:

“Even today it is difficult to imagine anybody beating him, including Muhammad Ali”.

If, and its a huge IF Louis makes it past round 6, Tyson was a front runner and tended to slow down. I don't think Tyson had good heart. He never got up to win, and tended to fold when the pressure was on him. The trick was weathering Tyson's early storm applying that pressure.

Louis jab would make Tyson swell and he definitely hit hard enough to take him out over the crouse of rounds.

The real question is would Louis and his lack of defense, combined with trouble vs Movers ( As a prime Tyson was ) last long enough to turn the tides. I'd go with Tyson early.

Louis has to be undamaged for the mid rounds.

Regardless... It's daft reasoning to favor a man to beat another just because he said that he could..
