I think that we can agree that any scenario where he does not have to cut weight helps his changes at heavyweight.

Beyond that point, it is a question of whether he is best to maximize his speed advantage, or add a bit of muscle to gain more strength.

That can be argued either way!

Of course there's a perfect size for each and every fighter, we both agree though that even a 180lb Toney would be too small to be competitive in the HW division?

I do not think that it would be impossible, for a 180lb fighter to be competitive at heavyweight today, if that was their optimum weight.

Yes, but the behomoths of the past were rare and usually limited skill-wise. Today’s super heavies are plentiful, well-trained and highly skilled.

Who are these 240lb+ boxers that make up this "plentiful" pool of "highly skilled" heavyweights?

As a side note, I remember many years ago reading on some website a write-up about early Joe Louis bouts, based on research of local newspapers, but I can't remember where I read it and can't find it in google. Does anybody else remember such write-up and/or has kept it or a link to it?

I could name 15 big men since 1990 that were better than Abe Simon or Buddy Baer.

Al of the below guys are big and more skilled in comparison to Abe Simon or Buddy Bear, who might only be good enough to be ranked in the top ten for a yea until they fight someone decent and get bumped out.

    Joshua
    Wlad
    Fury
    Vitali
    Lewis
    Bruno
    Bowe
    Tucker
    Douglas
    Old Foreman
    Ibeabuchi
    Maskeav
    Sanders
    Peter
    Pulev

There are more to list if needed.

I'm not counting excess fat for weight. Butterbean was fat. He would be nobody in the top ten. When I say Louis is two weight classes below modern heavyweight with skill, I mean when people are in shape.

AJ and Fury are 240-255 in shape, which is where Miller should be.

My turn. Did Louis beat anyone above 220 pounds that would be in the top ten today? If so, who?

It is probably easier to get into the top ten today, than it has been at any point in history!

Not because of the quality of the division, but because of the politics!

Yes, the big men that Louis beat, would have been in the top ten today!

Louis got up to win against

    Braddock
    Walcott
    Galento
    Baer

I guess he was glass jawed fraud. Anymore stupid questions?

What makes you think Miller isn't in shape? He doesn't look any less fat than Fury does. In fact he looks in better shape than Fury tbh.

All of them. Simon, Baer, Galento and Carnera would all crack the top ten at some point. Brezeale is there now with no ranked opponents under his belt.

Stop putting words in to my mouth, nobody called Louis glass jawed.

He had a shaky chin though and would not be able to take shots off AJ and Wilder.

Pack it in now son you're getting a hiding.
