Of course it is, Lewis was robbed in the first bout and won the second.

Do you think he would have beat Holyfield who wasn't giving away such height, reach and weight?

I disagree about Lewis being a better boxer but that's my opinion.

Here is how I look at it.

The big men that Louis beat were not as good as the best modern super heavyweights, but they were good enough to give us a pretty good idea of whether Louis matched up well against this type of fighter.

If Louis struggled with this type of fighter stylistically, then they should have been doing at least as well as the smaller contenders that he faced.

As contenders you would expect them to be able to manage some sort of effective resistance, based on their size alone.

It seems inescapable that Louis excelled against this type of fighter, and that the best big men would have a fight on their hands.

I wouldn't have a clue.

What boxer matches the attributes that this new boxer would look like?

Well we saw how their actual fights panned out.

Do you think Lewis would have been so dominant with the jab without the height and reach advantage?

I've already said, I don't know. Changing someone's dimensions changes everything so I have a hard time envisioning this new boxer.

Pick a boxer who you think best represents what a bigger Holyfield would look like and I'll let you know if I think Lewis wins or not.

Exactly, changing their dimensions changes everything including ones style in all likelihood.

Did david tua have a poor chin when he was dropped by c level 42% ko ratio Monte barret?

Tex Cobb kod by feather fisted bum dee Collier?

Was ali glass jawed when he was floored by sonny banks?

What about holyfield against james toney?

You cant take a moment when a fighter was wobbled by a guy who lacls power and say they have a bad chin but ignore all the other times they displayed an amazing chin.

Dereck Chisora has been a top ten mainstay for years. Eric Molina and Duahapas have both had stints in the top ten. Today we have Pulev and Brezeale in that position.

Is it really so unrealistic that Baer or Galento could crack the top ten? After all Arreola managed it without ever really beating anyone.

My point is
My point is it's pointless as we will never find out.

Louis is a bona fide ATG, you could never count him out of any fight. If he lands his shots chances are his opponents are going over.

Galento was ranked #1 in his time. That would never happen today. He would be a journeyman.

I think Pulev easily out boxes him. I don't think Brezeale is very good, and his highest rank was nine. Being from the USA helped him, he would never be in my top ten. Skill wise Arreloa is ahead of Buddy Baer and Tony Galento.

The question is Joe Louis vs. modern Giants. I'd give Louis the edge over Brezeale or Arreola. For sure. I also think he lose more often than win vs. Lewis, Bowe, Klitschko, Klitschko and Joshua.

The game is changing, 10 years ago the top ten looked like a mix of super heavies and smaller 210-225 pound men.

Wladimir Klitschko, Champion

1. Vitali Klitschko
2. Alexander Povetkin
3. Eddie Chambers
4. Ruslan Chagaev
5. David Haye
6. Chris Arreola
7. Denis Boytsov
8. Nikolay Valuev
9. Alexander Dimitrenko
10. Tony Thompson

And 60 years ago, it looked like this:

Joe Louis, Champion

1. Tony Galento
2. Bob Pastor
3. Lou Nova
4. Tommy Farr
5. Max Schmeling
6. Johnny Paychek
7. Red Burman
8. Gunnar Barlund
9. Roscoe Toles
10. Lee Savold

2009 vs 1939....not looking good for 1939

Now, and in the future, they are all super heavies. And some of the guys on the way up are very good. You can read about them here:

Oh deary me, you do realise Tua was a pensioner at that stage and completely shot. What a **** poor example from you there.

The same goes for Holyfield, let's try comparing apples with apples here.

It wasn't that long ago that guys like Ruiz and Maskaev and Peter held number 1, so the idea that no-one could manage that ranking is absurd. Toney managed to break the top 5 as did Byrd and Jones and they're all former MW fighters.

Wilder has been below 215 for his last two fights. Is that SHW material?

Povetkin has been below 230 almost his entire career. Is that SHW material?
