We have been through this before.

    It would be a draw.

Although I have the deepest, utmost respect for Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali is one man that i have never picked Louis to beat, and likely never will. I'm not going to get into the usual rhetoric of who beat better men or who was more advanced than the other due to modern or primitive circumstances... I'm simply going to say that Ali just had the wrong style and wrong set of tools for Louis to be able to take any sort of advantage.... I can't see Joe scoring a stoppage, and for him to out point Ali for 15 rounds, is just beyond my imaginative capabilities....

Legacy wise, I rate these two very, very close.. In fact, I have often gone back and forth in terms of who takes #1 and who has #2.... But, head to head, there is no doubt in my mind who I'd bet my money on...

Mr Magoo put it down well and I agree with him across the board on the things he wrote. The only thing that makes me wonder a little is that Ali didn't impress me in either Chuvalo 1 or the Terrell bouts. George didn't move forward very quickly yet numerous times had Ali on the ropes where he let go with body punches, and not because Ali was letting him. If Joe was to win I think it would have been short rights to the head and body from that setting.

watching Ali's fight before retirement and watching him getting hit by an older Zora Foley, Henry Cooper, Doug Jones and Floyd Patterson and then in the comeback vs Bonavena and FRazier. I can see Ali slowed down on the movement side but appeared to be much stronger and durable. The earlier version may be able to confuse Joe with movement for a while or a fight but overall I dont see him having an easy time with Louis who had one of the best left hand hooks and power jabs and multiple power right hands.

I think if Joe Louis was in the ring instead of Frazier in the 1st fight Louis would have finished Ali in the 11th because Joe Louis was the best power punch combination fighter of all time and a great finisher. I can also see Ali giving Joe trouble with his movement but this is a very close match up

Extremely difficult matchup to call. In my opinion, if they fought 3 times, Ali would win the first fight, Louis the second one, and the third one would be a hotly contested draw.

I think Ali on his best day beats Louis on his best day. I think Louis on an average day, beats Ali on his average day.

    If that makes any sense........

Keith, I think that really does make sense actually, in it's own way.

Taking them both on their best, I'd have to think Ali exploits his foot and hand speed to a UD.

I'll take Louis on a late stoppage.

Before Ali's exile, Louis gave an outline of how he thought Ali could be beaten. Joe Frazier essentially executed it in the Fight of the Century. So Louis would certainly have had the right gameplan.

If Louis, with his superior two-handed power and ability, had been in the ring instead of Frazier in the 11th or 15th, Ali would have been done.

I think it would be close. If they fought 10 times (without diminishing effects) I'd expect Louis to win 5 or 6 times and Ali to win 4 or 5 times.

The 2 greatest HWs ever but only one is thee greatest & that man is Muhammad Ali.

I think the footspeed & reach are decisive in winning Ali a UD over 15.

That's how I see it. A lot of people point to the first Frazier fight as how Louis could beat Ali,but Frazier was a different fighter from Louis, and posed a different type of problem. Ali UD 15.

When two guys of this caliber get in the ring together, you couldn't say for sure. But I favor Ali in every way on this. Louis was not the master of cutting the ring off and Ali was the master of using the ring space in his prime. The fight would be an awful lot closer with Louis in his prime VS Ali in his comeback. Louis has virtually no chance of scoring a knockout over prime Ali.

I think young Ali is favourite due to superior speed and mobility.

Old Ali is probably an underdog and could even get knocked out. If Frazier and Foreman inflicted damage on Ali when he was more stationary in his later career, imagine what 15 rounds of Joe Louis could do to him.
