The power question is quite debatable:

Louis threw the best short punches with minimum effort & maximum impact that a fighter can possibly throw. To look at him, well he wasn't what you'd consider an intimidating fighter since he wasn't very big, but he had the skill, accuracy & timing to deliver perfectly thrown punches that caught his opponents at the exact moment where the swing is most powerful.

Louis was truly a sweet scientist with good ring generalship & footwork combined with good workrate for a Heavyweight. Exceptional jab to set up nice combos too.

I voted for "draw" since Rocky's chin was well, a rock. Marciano had been knocked down before but he never looked ready to go & usually the knockdown resulted from a perfectly place punch while Rocky was off balance or caught out of position.

It'd be closer than the fight that actually took place, but I'd still favour Rocky to get a late stoppage/KO. Pointing out his knock-downs is just idiotic, Louis had his fair share of those too.

Louis was more accurate, faster, and had better technique. But Marciano's Suzie Q was more powerful than anything in Joe's arsenal.

Rocky by TKO mid to late rounds. Very underrated defense, trenendous bobbing and weaving and ability to roll with punches, and he was always able to hit hard any opponent he was in with. The kd's Rock took never hurt him. Louis was no defensive genius, got tagged quite a bit, knocked down and buzzed numerous times, and ktfo by Schmelling for cryin' out loud. Louis could win on points or spin his punches to rip apart Rocks face but I think Rocky pulls it out despite a great effort by Joe.

A 37 year old well past his prime Louis gave Rocky a tough fight and lasted to the mid rounds. You see a prime Louis losing the same way? :huh

Louis by TKO, but it's not unimaginable that Marciano could stop Louis either.

I agree, i think tyson is one of the few in history capable of stopping the rock. i do think louis gets floored twice early before coming on, cause unlike the 37 year old louis the younger louis will be coming into marciano and younger louis was 15lb lighter and more vunerable to being knocked down. but overall louis beats rock to the punch and batteres marciano with his accurate pinpoint combos and elegennt left jab.

I see Tyson stopping Marciano, Foreman has a very good shot because he usually devoured short fighters who came into him, Liston would bust up Marciano and could stop him as well but that would be a tough fight. But these are the only fighters that have a chance to stop Marciano, although Lewis/Louis also have shots although slim ones.

A primed Louis wins this one clearly. Love the Eddie Murphy reference; not exactly a HUGE exageration.

I rate Joe louis as my # 1 Heavyweight of all times but Joe said himself he did not like to be crowded. I see Marciano as a tough oppnent for him, Louis had the best power combination punching of all time and could punch with both hands. Marciano was the most durable, had the best quick recovery from being hurt, late power and a rythym breaker who could break you collar bone with a punch. This fight would really test both mens metal and that is why GOD did not put 2 of them in the same era because fights like that both men lose.......

Louis was past his prime but Rock had not reached his yet, he'd only been a pro for 4 1/2 years and had almost no amature background, so I'd still take Rock for the reasons mentioned in my previous post.
