That makes me think about something... What if the 30's would have had a Cruiserweight division -200 like we have now. How bad would the Heavyweight division have been at that time? :blood
Toss up. Louis was knocked down by the likes of an aged Jim Braddock and a sloppy Tony Galento ( probably other opponents too ) and Louis was outboxed by Conn for several rounds so a Kovalev win is far from impossible. However, we haven't seen Kovalev vs anybody close to Joe Louis either ( as far as I know he hasn't fought anybody comparable to Louis ).
Let's see after Braddock's fight with Louis, Braddock had one more fight against Tommy Farr which he won by split decision. Campillo is 3-1 following his fight with Kovalev. At the time Braddock fought Farr, Farr was 69-25-17. In the minds of most modern boxing fans that would make Farr "utter rubbish". Braddock himself had a record of 45-23-4 when he fought Louis for the title which would have the modern boxing fan again screaming "utter rubbish".
Inactivity probably didn't help Braddock, but his last performance was his career's best, so this is a highly questionable argument.
Who the hell is Camprilo never heard of him. But Kovalev did fight Campillo and Caparello, and no that was not a legit KD by CAPARELLO and you know it, now stop playing stupid........oh wait nevermind.
