I have never seen anything remotely special about his skill level, at times he can look as crude as Brandon Rios. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oQsLrUxDPA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frqw_GO0LLk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLbLGeTHIJA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txDPVMmdNos
Speed isn't everything. Applies to Kovalev's offensive skills, the same way it applies to, say, the underrated footwork of none other than Joe Louis. Slow and steady usually wins the race if "slow and steady" is augmented by "careful and textbook perfect with pinpoint accuracy, expert timing, and debilitating power" - a truism embodied fully by Sergey & Joe both. :deal
Most fighters from the past would be brutalized by the fighters of today, you are being a nostalgist, I am not and you won't convince me otherwise, I also think Wlad Lennox and Vitali would steamroll every great HW from the 80's and 70's as well. :conf Sorry
Kovalev seemed to be pacing himself for the 12 , despite nothing coming back at him. I don't see how this is indicative of supreme conditioning. Topping displays of non stop back and forth fights such as Walcott and Conn.
You know I have a tendency for bombast, I know Joe was skilled. But I think its incredibly hard to compare the past and the present accurately. No one knows for sure the answer, the Louis fans or the Kovalev fans its a stupid argument.
Thats too broad of a statement. You're saying Louis gets knocked out by a guy whose best win is 50 year old UD Hopkins who may never fight again. Chad Dawson easily beat Hopkins years earlier. Does he beat Louis too? The guys Louis beat were all hardened brutes much tougher than Kovalev and anybody he ever faced. Krusher is good , but he's done nothing to prove he could beat Louis. While his footwork is decent , its not fast enough to avoid being in the zone of Joe's brutal right hand. When you got hit with the right hand , you don't see what comes behind hit till its too late. There isn't a LHW nor Cruiser in the world who could Beat Louis.
This has to be one of the worst threads I've seen in years only because of the self righteous bull and racial undertone that surrounds certain posters everywhere they go .its sickening. That said Kov would certainly have a shot however putting this match up in proper perspective would mean Kov fighting Joe in the 30's same education same diet and same habits of the men who fought in that era .we can also look at this vice versa .pound for pound you'd be silly not to give an "ATG" like Joe the edge.
