Not utter rubbish if said fighter with a 45-23-4 record beat the likes of Max Baer.

You're assuming a hell of a lot and I'm assuming a hell of a lot, neither one of us know definitively how well Louis would fare today, you think he'd fare fine, I don't.

Also there were 17 guys who were able to take Joe's brutal right hand, and most of those were the top tier opponents he fought, the better the fighter the better the chin. Joe fought a lot of bums and the really good fighter either went the distance with him, beat him, or came close to a draw. And don't forget a European Schmeling knocked his ass out in his prime.

I think he'd have a chance based on Joe's record of being rocked, dropped and KO'd early in his career. Am I sure of it, or course not.

For some strange reason a Floyd Patterson vs Kovalev bout would make more sense to me….

Curious how does he doe vs Sonny Liston? Since we are going down this round of pitting Kova vs decent heavies of the past.

Im basing a judgement off his career. Who he fought and how he looked.

Louis beat more dangerous and bigger men than Kovalev. ATG's and hall of famers.

Kovalev out pointed a Hopkins who wasn't even trying to win. Thats it.

Guys floored Louis by coming at him like a terrier and this often opened up the beast within him which crushed them unmerciful soon after.
Sergey's hands are too slow for Louis and if he tried to bull rush him like he did to Camperllo he'd leave the ring on a gurney.

Don't forget Louis later pulverized Schmelling in a single round. A frightening performance.

So what your saying is The guys who dropped or knocked out Louis are quicker than Sergey Kovalev. :think Marciano was blistering! Galento was super quick! Braddock, cor blimey, he made jones look slow. was schmeling so fast?

Im not saying Kovalev would win at all, Louis is more proven and has huge power proven against big men. But Too say kovalev didnt have the handspeed to drop louis means your a bit uneducated. The fighters who dropped louis werent any quicker then kovalev or in many cases alot slower.

Galento was faster than Kovalev. Was Louis prime against Marciano?

Most old guys because they were old guys are considered Hall of Famers.

Hopkins wasn't try to win because when he tried in Round 1 he got dropped and he knew that would happen again.

Kovalev has shown he has far more patience than most previously thought and would not charge Louis like an idiot and get KO'd.

Hopkins didn't think Kovalev was quick enough to beat him he was proved wrong. And Louis was no Manny Pacquiao himself.

If he stays in Joe's range , he loses that boxing match in every facet of combat.
Hopkins was weary of Krusher's power , not his speed. A mover like Spinks would be all wrong for Kovalev.

Maybe he was the Pacman of his time. His combos were fast and lethal.

Hoya said Manny was like fighting 3-4 men. Baer said the exact same about Louis.

:rofl Baer and dela hoya. Nice comparsion. Joe wasnt a mover though like SPINKS, why are you throwing names out of a hat like that. Louis was a bit plodding, short steps, calculated but not flowing like spinks. And Baer can say what he likes, But De La Hoya was far more talented and quicker p4p than baer.

Actually a pretty decent match up. I would have to go with Louis by KO as he is the bigger, more proven fighter.

Had they lived in the same era, and used same/similar nutrition and training techniques, Kovalev would find it very hard to even be a challenger to Louis. I think only a prime Tyson could be a match to a prime Louis.

This would be John Henry Lewis KO1 all over again, who like Kov was a great fighter and durable knockout puncher against men his own size. Unless you are grease lighting slick and elusive like Conn, a light heavyweight doesn't have a hope against prime Louis. Hell, most HWs who aren't elusive don't have a hope against Louis. This is asking to much of Kov.

Now Kov mixing it up with the Black Murders, now that would be interesting. He would be right with them as a feared fighter nobody would want to tangle with.
