Something I noticed about Louis is he did his best work against straight up fighters his height and taller. His speed, combination punching and precision would have frustrated Sonny.

It’s not without possibility that Sonny could catch him with a big shot because he very well could have. Sonny would have a had a slight reaCh advantage and Joe would have had to get in range to get Sonny. But honestly Joe was a superior boxer and style wise he would have beaten Sonny.

Joe had fantastic feet. Because he shuffled some people think he was slow but watch him. Louis was constantly adjusting to maintain range and insuring he was never off balance, always moving through his centre. This was the result of hours and hours of Jack Blackburn working on it with him.
Liston held his feet and tended to lunge when out of range, particularly with his right.
Louis isn't just going to stand there and jab with Liston.

I'm not saying he would. Louis was a great combo puncher, and could fight fight from any position. He had very practical footwork. But he did not have great head and body movement like Young or Machen.

"Slight reach advantage?" Try 8 inches!

The forum has been over this in many threads, & most all see that the evidence is very convincing tat Liston was not born before the early 1930's. He was likely not more than at most 30 on 1960.

People don't get it that making Liston older against Ali doesn't change anything. Age is just a number. If Liston was really so old, it means that he was better when he was old than when he was young. Liston wasn't in his prime in mid-50s, no matter how old he was then.

That's very plausible. He certainly looked that old.

H2H prime vs prime, I'll bet on Sonny beating any ATG before his era.
