it has been a while since I watched this fight and am not sure I scored it. Was this seen as a controversial decision? I was reading on the Wilder Fury fight and came across an article on British challengers fighting in the US (link at bottom of post). The hint is that the crowd booed the decision (I don’t recall) and while US media defended the decision, British media thought Farr did, with “The London Evening Standard” reporting that Farr proved the better, cleverer and more resourceful boxer. So was this seen as a controversial decision in some circles? http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/...tory-not-tyson-fury-side-fight-deontay-wilder
Most people seem to have thought that while it was a poor performance on Louis's part, it was justifiable to give him the decision.
When you look at Louis s ko record then Farr going 15 with him was quite an achievement. Only Godoy and Walcott managed it later ,Walcott when Joe was nearing retirement. Joe may not have being at his very best against Tommy but still to survive against the Bomber ..
It was a lackluster performance from Louis. Battle of jabs from the highlights, the knuckle injury Mcvey mentions seems to explain that, I thought Farr was up going into championship round terrortory but Louis swept 12-15 from clips available to me. That was enough I think the judges got it right but the ref was way to wide in Louis favor. 13-2 I believe
I have watched the fight film over the course of my lifetime maybe six or seven times, including the 16mm print purchased over 30 years ago which I still own. To me, it was a very competitive fight with Louis winning a couple of rounds more than Farr.
