Louis rarely fought any 'giants'. The average louis opponent was less than 200 pounds. Of the bigger heavyweights he did face most were fat and out of shape and they didn't look to outbox Louis like Fury would they stood right in front of him.
Punched himself in the face? so what?
He also pitched a complete shutout against a dominant 12 year reigning super champion in his back yard with everything stacked against him and with the whole world thinking he was going to his destruction.

I give Fury more credit than most people do here, but Louis would KO him in a few rounds. Fury, though, should be acknowledged for what he is: the undefeated heavyweight champion of the world.

Buddy Bear didn't have the unique ability to uppercut himself.

Now Fury is beating Louis? This place is ****ing hilarious. Fury is a huge guy, no doubt, which would pose problems for anybody. But to pick him over Louis, who destroyed huge men is ridiculous.

Yet if someone said Fury would beat Ali there would be ****ing uproar on here. It's that double standard again.

Someone mentioned Buddy Baer? Is Fury really superior to him? Based on what? Being a decent mover for a big guy? Baer could really bang, but gets dismissed.

Fury(who I think is a breath of fresh air), has been hurt badly by far worse fighters than Joe Louis. His fight with Vlad was a joke. It was a glorified sparring session. An old Vlad couldn't adapt to a bigger man with decent mobility. That's it!

Marciano gets pelters on here, but Fury is suddenly wonderful for beating an old, one dimensional Klitschko? Funny how that works!

Fury is a big, awkward guy with some ability. He sometimes looks terrible but can also surprise you with decent skills, at times. He's a smart cookie, too. He's knowledgeable about the sport and gets under people's skin like Ali did. I like the guy.

But he hasn't achieved anywhere near enough to be given a serious chance against any ATG, yet alone Joe Louis.

He's come along at exactly the right time. I don't think he'd have been a factor in other eras. Holmes, Witherspoon and Lewis would have flattened him.

Against Steve Cunningham, he made the least effective use of his size against a smaller fighter, that I have ever seen in a big heavyweight at that level.

Well Fury is definitely a better troll. He could eat more hedgehog pies than Louis too. Also, if Louis were 58, Fury would beat him at boxing too.

Fury can't fight a lick. Horrible mismatch here.

The large hwts Joe fought were not fat and out of shape. B Baer, Simon, Carnera were all superbly conditioned.

I can't believe how delusional people here are. From what footage we have from Joe Louis he had no jab and no footwork and would just stand in front of his opponent. Flat footed brawler, there's literally nothing that Fury doesn't do better than him.

I just wonder how delusional or dishonest you have to be to watch footage like that and claim that this guy could hang with modern boxers yet alone with a much bigger modern boxer who is also the champ.

Any top 30 LHW would beat this non-athletic plodder. Hell, Erislandy Lara would probably outbox him, Louis never boxed with anyone who had even nearly that good lateral movement, Lara would look like an alien in those times.

Fury's immense size only allows him to take a more sever beating. Louis KO 8.

Everybody knows that anyone who fought prior to 1950 would beat anyone who came after.
