All fights would be this brutal if the gloves had little to no padding.
    Padding makes a HUGE difference.

Do you even know who Joe Louis was?

Padding is mostly for hands and face protection, not for reducing punching power.

It doesn't make any appreciable difference to the kinetic impact.

This has been very clearly demonstrated in the laboratory.

    That is much fairer argument.

In my eyes there is no obvious pick in this matchup. Fury is absolutely phenomenal. His reactions, ring IQ, elusiveness, grit and heart are truly a sight to behold. Louis never faced a dynamo with his size and skills.

Inversely, Fury never faced a guy like Louis. Who was as accurate as Mayweather, with bone rattling, size agnostic power. I believe if Louis were to be transported into a modern day boxing fight, people would be astonished at his finesse.

My prediction is that Louis catches Fury, puts him down around round 9, and finishes him off from there. Louis may not pack the power of Wilder, but he will find his target far more often, and once he has Fury in a vulnerable situation, he will not let Tyson off the hook.

Fury’s elusiveness is far easier to see against large oafish HW’s. But he isn’t absent of oafish tendencies himself; the same tendencies that plague all SHWs, from Carnera to Lewis.

My vote is for Louis, but I’m not mortgaging the house on it.

From a certain point of view, Fury's like a bigger Billy Conn, so I expect him to out-maneuver Louis.
Remember that Wilder has a big reach, so Fury had to be more careful against him then he would be against Louis. Fuy can simply hit Louis from a safe distance and Louis can't do anything about it.
    My money's on Fury.

So you're telling me that Resto would have caused Collins just as much damage if he had a regular padded glove !??? :duh:duh:duho_Oo_Oo_O

So if it's for face protection, isn't it logical/common sense that if someone like Tyson used a glove with less padding, he'll do more damage to his opponents ?!?

Yea, a cruiserweight by today's standards. When he gap in size in that huge, and the bigger guy is skilled, there's nothing the little guy can do.
A big skilled boxer beats a small skilled boxer.

Not relevant in how many rounds he won, since he faced bigger men and since he has gloves with more padding.

More cuts or facial injuries? Maybe, but it wouldn't give him more power.

No, of course it won't give him more power, it's not like he's gonna grow a different arm.
But my point is that he'll do more damage, therefore he'll have an advantage. And more damage doesn't have to be limited to just cuts and facial injuries, it can also be broken bones. Remember Dempsey vs Willard ?

If you want to be consistent then, give oldschool fighters the additional points for durability then. Does it suit your agenda?
