For years Louis's SHW opposition was disparaged for being too unskilled or unathletic. The very best Fury fought were a 40 year old Wald and Wilder. Are those guys better than a prime Buddy Baer or Primo? Two days ago he nearly got beat by a 0-0 SHW. Is Francis better than Buddy now?
I do not believe that Deontay Wilder is better than Primo Carnera was. I do believe that Tyson Fury is better than Primo Carnera was. But I still believe Joe Louis would have beaten Tyson Fury. I would expect the best version of Joe Louis to win over the best version of Tyson Fury by decision or late stoppage.
Smooth as silk. The way he gets inside and lands a right hand at close quarters. That right there would be Fury's undoing.
I actually find myself increasingly comparing Tyson Fury to Jack Sharkey. The best heavyweight in the world, from the neck down. Absolutely spectacular when on form, but falling well short of his potential on other occasions. Put Fury in an era, where he doesn't have the luxury of taking difficult fights when he is ready, and he probably starts to look a lot like Sharkey.
His brilliance would inevitably shine through at times, with spectacular results. However he would not have the luxury, of taking extended time out from the sport, when his mental health was less than 100%. This would be reflected on his record. To be honest, Jack Sharkey was probably a paragon of stability, by comparison!
As things stand ? Not a chance. If they were both placed in the same era with similar upbringings for the better or worse ? Who knows ?
Fury will lose to most ATG's for a few months but if he comes back and beats Usyk he'll be whipping most of them again..........until he has trouble with Big Bang or someone or in a non title fight. Or he may just be past it. Time will tell.
The excuses are all over the place: -Wilder has a much longer reach and height so it's easier for him to land compared to Dempsey and Louis. -Wilder hits much harder. -Wilder throws unorthodox punches and is more athletic so it's harder for Fury to dodge. -Fury was still somehow rusty in fight 1 and simply got careless in fight 3. -Fury wouldn't get hit because he can simply lean back or lean on Dempsey/Louis. -Wilder is a h2h monster while simultaneously being a terrible boxer. -Dempsey/Louis had effective speed/power/timing against "bums"...but you can't question Wilder's speed/power etc despite a weak resume. Am I missing anything?
